This is the place to list what you got. But also so we can understand the early Harbour Lights better, I would like to list the variation types for the Tier #1
What I hope to acomplish:
1. Is the lighthouse made in California, Canada or Malyasia
2. What color is the felt. Light gray, green or dark gray?
3. Is the felt flush to the edge or set back?
4. does it have any variation type?
This is what we have so far. Check them and make sure I got yours right. I added all that was talked about even those that was received before the selling of the founders collection . they will be done in bold.

The following is copied from the "What happend to the Founder's Collection thread?". It was a reply I did when we came home from dinner last night. I haven't opened the boxes yet, but when I do, I'll answer your inquiries, Dan: "My FC pieces were delivered just as Lorna and I were headed out to dinner. I haven't opened the boxes yet but according to the pack slip here's what should be in the boxes: HL 129 New London Ledge #8 HL 133 Tybee Island #3 HL 144 Heceta Head #7 (#7 on packing list, received #5) HL 163 Cape Canveral #8 HL 164 Pemaquid #8 HL 173 Mantinicus #8 HL 188 Beavertail #8 HL 280 Bullock's Point#7 HL 284 Clark's Point #7 My first ultimate choice was Southeast Light, Block Island but that didn't happen. After choosing the older lights in tier #1, I tried to focus on lights from the New England area in tier #2. I ended up with nine HL's but I told them I would take twelve if they were available. I'm happy that I was even able to participate. My dealer dropped the ball and it was only through the good graces of Harbour Lights that I was able to get my order in just before the deadline. Many thanks to Harbour Lights and the Younger Family for making these special pieces available to their faithful collectors. If they have HL's left and they decided to do a second chance offer, count me in! ALSO, if one of you fellow collectors who received a HL 128 Southeast Block Island, and want to trade for one of the lights I received, let me know. HL 128 was the very first HL I ever purchased and it would be like coming full circle to have that piece from the Founder's Collection." Bob

1. Is the lighthouse made in California, Canada or Malyasia
2. What color is the felt. Light gray, green or dark gray?
3. Is the felt flush to the edge or set back?
4. does it have any variation type? Okay, Daniel, I will answer your questions as I open my boxes. 1. HL 144 Heceta Head flag #5, Malaysia, green felt, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: I did not request HL 144 on my wish list. Someone must have misread my requests.) 2. HL 133 Tybee, flag #3, Malaysia, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Tybee was my third requested HL on my second batch of three.) 3. HL 129 New London Ledge, flag #8, Malaysia, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: NLL was my 3rd request from my first batch of three.) 4. HL 163 Cape Canaveral, Flag #008, Malaysia, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Cape Canaveral was my first choice in tier 2 of my first batch of three.) 5. HL 164 Pemaquid Point, flag #008, Malaysia, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Pemaquid Point was my first choice in tier 2 in the third batch of three.) 6. HL 173 Mantinicus Rock, flag #008, Malaysia, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Mantinicus was my second choice in batch three of three.) 7. HL 188 Beavertail, flag #8, China, green, flush, gold tower variation, blue box. (Note: Beavertail was my third choice in tier 2 in batch one of three.) 8. HL 280 Bullocks Point, flag #7, China, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Bullocks Point was my first choice in tier 2 batch two of three.) 9. HL 284 Clark's Point, flag #7, China, green, flush, no variation, blue box. (Note: Clark's Point was my second choice in tier 2 of batch two of three.) There they are, all nine I received. Was I surprised by what I received? Was I elated with all the HL's I received? For the answer to those questions, please refer to my thread titled, "Rating the Founder's Collection HL's" located in "The Numbers Game". Bob

Very Pleased Here!
HL126, Nauset Beach MASS, #4, Malaysia, Green, flush, no variation, blue box HL243, Cape Henlopen DE, #4, China, Green, flush, no variation, blue box HL274, Hendericks Head ME, #4, China, Green, flush, no variation, blue box
I am very pleased that Tony C., HLs, and even Bill Younger for allowing to sell off his collection, to give us collectors an "opportunity" to own some of the lowest and most desirable Harbour Lights pieces available.
This is truly one of the highlights in 2008 in which I shall cherish and be reminded of Bill each time I look at them.
Where's your list DANIEL ?

Where are all the responses in this thread? Maybe the FC HL's haven't arrived in other parts of the country yet, or collectors are too shy to state their feelings about what they received. Maybe some collectors want to keep it a secret that they've added certain "rare" pieces to their collections. Maybe we'll pick up a few more responses tomorrow. Bob

Nice low numbers on all three. We're you surprised that the Key West was not a Canadian piece?

I got my 3 pieces and was a little disappointed with my Tier 1 piece as it was not the Canadian that I had hoped for with the green roof, Gray Lantirn Room, Black Ladder, Gray Water Line and Green Water, but, you can't win them all.
#131 Minot's Ledge, Blue Water, Green Roof, Black Lantirn Room, Green Ladder, Black Water Line, Malaysian, S/N 9, No variations, Blue Box w/peanuts.
#287 Dry Tortugas, S/N 8, China, No Variations, Blue Box.
#290 Anclote Key, S/N 3, China, No Variations,

Rich I would call yours Minot's Ledge with the black Lantern a variation. There was only 1400 of that version made verses the natural stone Lantern which had over 2300 made.

Nice low numbers on all three. We're you surprised that the Key West was not a Canadian piece? I was a little disappointed but Not surprised. I have seen and heard of two other Founders collection Southern Bells that was Malaysian. So I new that it was very possible that the rest of the Southern Bells were Malaysian. I saw a number 7 St Augustine at the St Augustine event that was Malaysian. I also heard of a single digit Key West being made in Malaysian. So I was not surprised. But I am very pleased with my extremly low numbers.

I took the first tier Malaysians from the founder's collection that had variations and came up with production numbers that correspond to variation change.
Michigan City 1900 New London Ledge 2400 Minot's Ledge 1800 Marble Head 2300
These are no way near the beginning. They are well into 1/3rd of the production.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Harbour Lights ordered their lights in batches back then. Now if the edition size was 5500, did they order approximately 2750, then ordered the other 2750 or so after the originals were being sold by the dealers? Or did they get more than two batches? There's a lot of history to be discovered here. The release of the Founder's Collection has certainly brought up some interesting points that need clarification. No matter what gets answered or goes unanswered, owning pieces from Bill's original "hold backs" is quite an honor for true collectors. How often do you get the opportunity to purchase a favorite collectible that is many years old and is actually brand new in the box. There's no flaws in the nine pieces I received. They are mint! Bob

Michigan City 1900 New London Ledge 2400 Minot's Ledge 1800 Marble Head 2300
Bob the four I listed was first made in Canada. Then three of them had lightning rods and made in Malaysia. Finally they were produced without lightning rods. That is three versions until we finally get to the founder’s collection. There would be one batch for the Canadian made and probably one batch for those with lightning rods. I suppose the Malaysian with lightning rods and those without could have been on the same batch but I doubt it. Then we come to the Minot’s Ledge, the variation that Rich describes is the fourth variation.
Bob the 1992 lighthouses listed above had smaller batches until by 1995 they reached 2200 to 2400. We can use the Round island variation to prove that. Then by 1999 the batches reached 4000 by using the Hudson-Athens, NY variation change to prove that.

Minot's Ledge # 639 of 5,500 Origin: Canada (Green water, black ladder, lantern room and baseline are gray/black, tower is gray.) All photos in Collector's Guide appear to have a tan-colored tower and the black is vivid. The tower on mine is gray and the lantern room and baseline are paint that is washed out black/gray. Differs from Rich's Founder's Collection Piece: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #131 Minot's Ledge, Blue Water, Green Roof, Black Lantern Room, Green Ladder, Black Water Line, Malaysian, S/N 9, No variations, Blue Box w/peanuts. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not a Founder's Collection piece, but another variation? Sandy There are five accepted Minot’s Ledge versions. If we want to count the many Canadian green waters there is probably at lest seven versions. If we want to add in the gray felt version we would have eight.

Daniel,
The gray tower, not the felt, is unique to how many produced? As I said, all pictures I've seen appear to show a tan tower and nobody's indicated the color of the tower.
The felt on the one I have is best described as mottled green and doesn't fit the bottom to its edge.

Sandy - The one you have is the one that I was hoping to get. It is the 1st variation that was produced and should fall between the numbers of 39 to 880 acording to John's data on Minot's Ledges and should have been made in Canada. About 17.6% of the 5500 pieces fall into this catagory.

So, my gray-colored tower is one of only 842 produced--correct?
Further, why is the color of the tower not prevalent in the discussions?

The version you have is a “green water Canadian made” the gray on the tower is just another change that goes with that version. The gray goes from very light to dark gray on the Canadians. Some describe the gray as a washed out black.

Thanks guys. Think you've clarified my understanding of what I have. I pulled up the threads on Minot's and nothing was said about the color of the tower. The HL site is "being updated" so very little is explained there. The Collector's Guide talks about green water and roof colors, the gallery area at the top of tower, and ladder, but nothing about the tower color.
If I don't ask for information from collectors on this site, I won't have all the information I want to have in a complete inventory.

Daniel- When you're redoing your recent list could you (or with someone to help you) pull together the different posts to do with the Founder's Collection into one sensible location on the Forum? I too find it time consuming and confusing to have this valuable information scattered in different threads. Maybe title it The Founder's Collection under the appropriate section. I've enjoyed your interest in this important topic in this "once in our lifetime" collection opportunity.

Daniel- Ideally the Founder's Collection deserves to be a new major sub-topic such as your "Numbers Game" sub-topic under the major topic "Collecting" with you as the moderator. This may make it easier to consolidate info too.

When I get time I was either going to list all the lighthouses that collectors received on this post or/and copy over what collectors posted on the other sites. This site was where we were to post what you got and the post Bob started was for collectors to give their opinons of what they thought about the founder's collection. As usual we got everything twisted.

Is anyone else beginning to think that maybe not that many collectors participated in the opportunity to purchase Founder's Collection pieces? Could it be the pieces of the FC were scooped up by collectors who do not visit the CF? Could it be the FC pieces were scooped up by people who do not want to share the identity of their pieces?
I thought we would have a tremendous response but very few have shared their thoughts on what they got. I know there's a few of us who were up front but not that many.

I have talked to Bill about when the #1 thru #10 were pulled from a production run and numbered.. He said he doesn't remember but promised to check with Kim who would know and then he will call me and share the information so that I can post it here..

As I posted the last post my cell phone rang and it was Bill saying that he had just talked to Kim and basically what Mike had posted was how it happened... I will flush out the story later on with their reasons when I get home later tonight..
One thing that I stated earlier was correct; Bill said they didn't start saving #1 - #10 at first but they started towards the end of the producing of the first 17 lighthouses, maybe as late as the last 5 or 6 of the first 17 lighthouses produced..
I will add more later!

Thanks for the info, Paul. I feel we are writing the history of Harbour Lights here at the CF, and it's nice to have someone who can add actual facts to the information we seek. Bob

Bill said that Kim reminded him today that by the time they had decided to keep the #1 thru #10 they had moved production to Canada and that almost right from the start the factory in Canada was working from behind and couldn't keep up with their orders for dealers..
The main priority was to get product to collectors first and foremost, which meant they decided to wait on numbering 1 thru 10 until production caught up with orders.. The time frame on this was when they moved to Malaysia from Canada; which never matched the production needs of lighthouses with their need to fill orders.
That is why most of the #1 thru #10 lighthouses are Malaysian until they switched to China for their manufacture company.

Thanks Paul That also makes sense why the North Head was a California Made and the rest so far are Malaysian. Since the North head was considered one of the lest popular there was no demand on its production. This left the Original California version for the vault while the others were needed for dealers.
It would be neat to know about the other first 17 if they were California or Malaysian.

Paul-Thanks for checking with Bill. The interesting oral history associated with the FC is being revealed. NOT what we expected before reports on what people received started coming out in the CF. BTW, what were your other 2 FC pieces besides Michigan City??

I got a Big Sable for my son and daughter-in-law, who really enjoyed the walk back to and the climb up the tower.. They met a person, who was the keeper for two weeks with his wife, they found that they had a mutual friend with them, small world..
The other is Hudson-Athens, which is one of my favorite lighthouses both to visit and HL's sculpture of it.. We visited it on a tour down the Hudson River right before the Baltimore Reunion..
Both are #5's..

My Ass't Keeper Sue (who keeps a wary eye on my collection's growth into her space} would have Big Sable high on her list of favorites. As a kid her family camped at the Ludington State Park nearby many times and she also walked to the lighthouse. I believe she mentioned that before it was well cared for she noticed that someone was even building fires in the basement of the keeper's dwelling. We could have lost it! Nowadays, we enjoy abserving it from our boat offshore in beautiful Lake Michigan.
Did your Hudson-Athens come thru as the missing rail variation? I agree it's a great looking light done in the French mansard style with a castle-like tower and all featured on an impressive base.

 Bob  I would think a knowlegeable dealer should have purchased quite a few? Then they would have ultimately got these pieces at a wholesale price & free shipping. If they didn't order with the store name they could have ordered as a Collector or in a family members name.

I feel that many collectors did participate. My own experience with "sharing" is many congratulatory emails. Unfortunately , there also were many "I'll trade you" . "I'll buy it from you." "What do you mean your not interested." "My eight year old would really like this one." And then there were the " #$%^ you." " Keep the #$@^%* thing. " "Thanks for nothing." I'm a nice guy but I really don't need the abuse.

Good idea-this could help you with more information about the FC.
Now I've got another anonymous idea that may help in your information quest and may help answer Bob M.'s concern about where are all those who received FC pieces--contact Tony C. and inquire if Tony could give you anonymously the number of pieces ordered under each FC option #1-4 and just the number of persons who participated in the FC options this 2nd time around. Maybe this could be done most anonymously w/o getting into any HL edition or piece numbers. IMHO Max.

I can't speak from certainty, but I believe HL would consider that information proprietary, Max. They are understandably very reluctant to release information about the inner workings.

lvhrbrlts-what a great selection of single digits, especially the Calif. piece! Maybe the autoship opportunity will help ease the diappointment of Canadians. Looks like a soft spot for our Great Lakes pieces. Congratulations!

Lvhrbrlts, ...That is a very impressive list of HL's to add to a collection! I, and many other collectors, were hoping for some Canadian pieces but we all know that didn't happen. I imagine you felt lucky that you received that Californian West Quoddy. What a truly rare piece to add to your collection! I'm extremely jealous that you received a HL 128 Southeast Block. That was my ultimate first choice from Tier #1,and I thought I was going to receive it, but that didn't happen. For some reason I received #5 Heceta Head which I didn't order. Do you want to trade? I guess you're the record holder regarding the number of pieces received by a CF member. Congratulations! As far as the #6 auto ship, I would jump on that without question. That would be a dream come true! Bob

Awesome collection lvhrbrlts The 103 "Made in California" was my first choice.
Okay I listed in my first post what we have so far. Check them and make sure I got yours right. I added all that was talked about even those that was received before the selling of the founders collection. They will be done in bold. A couple of you did not finish telling what you had and some promised to list later. You know how you are.

I find this topic very interesting. This is Harbour Lights History in the making. Like many of you, I'm very curious about what is being released, and what has been sold so far. I'm exceptionally curious about a couple of Flag #1's being in the group. I thought a collector had purchased all the #1's. Could these be duplicates? Were these few lights forgotten when the collector got his shipment of all the #1's? And now the ultimate questions: What remains of the FC, will it too be offered for sale, and how will that sale be marketed? Bob

Only 97 L.E.'s were sold from the total listing of 239. These were Limited editions from HL101 to HL343. Out of the first 45 lighthouse only 6 was provided with the number 1. As you can see Bill has given away alot of his lights for charities, HL events and to special people. And now the ultimate questions: What remains of the FC, will it too be offered for sale, and how will that sale be marketed? The rumor is that there will be another Founders Collection offer.

Just playing with numbers. Assuming that no collector bought from Option 4. The first Tier dictates the total amount that could be sold. There were 26 different lighthouses available with at the most nine numbers per light. Making the most possible amount of lighthouses for Tier “1” to be 234. For Tier “2” there was 157 different lighthouses available making the most possible amount of lighthouse for Tier “2” to be 1,413 (9x157=1413). For every lighthouse that was bought from tier “1” there was two bought from Tier “2”, which means the most possible bought from tier 2 is 468 (2x234). So 1413-468= 945 If everyone of the first Tier were sold that would still leave around 945 of the second tier left for the next time. Yes there will be plenty for another Founders collection sale.

Daniel- Although no inventory has been released, the FC MAY contain: 1. Collector's Society Editions 2. Special Editions 3. Open Editions 4. Anchor Bays I would assume that those buyer's who received an autoship #1-10 would get the right to purchase their autoship # from the above collections.

Thanks to Daniel I am now the proud owner of a Canadian Minot's Ledge which I was originally hoping to get. Daniel is now the happy owner of a Founder's Colection Minot's Ledge. Through a mutual trade both of us are happy and all is GOOD in Florida.

I guess Rich and I put the first value on a Tier #1 Founders collection. We both thought that it was a fair trade to exchange a #9 Minot’s Ledge type IV Malaysia for a green water Canadian Minot’s Ledge with Castle Studios box. The going Ebay value for a Canadian Green water Minot’s ledge is from $160 to $260. That’s not bad Rich for a $60 lighthouse.

Has anyone noticed this?
HL 163 #006 Cape Canaveral, China HL 163 #007 Cape Canaveral HL 163 #008 Cape Canaveral, Malaysia HL 163 #0009 Cape Canaveral, Malaysia
Is this a mistake or is there two different Manufacturers for the Cape Canaveral Founders Collection

The first lighthouse that had it's production run finished in Chine was the HL166 Scituate with HL 179 Toledo being the second.. Cape Canaveral sold out quickly so there would be no need to finish the run in China..
When I started collecting both versions of the lighthouse made in China and Malaysia, Canaveral was never mentioned.. Maybe Jim can recheck on that Canaveral he got for his customer to make sure it is from China and not Malaysia..

Just re-checked the bottom of HL163, #006, Cape Canaveral, and there is a small tag that says "Handcrafted in China."

Very interesting, I will have to check mine at home, I don't have the country listed in my inventory for some reason.. The year it was produced is right in the area for the time that HL was switching countries of production.. I found the chart of manufacturing countries on HarbourLights.com and it has all of Cape Canaveral being produced in China so maybe we should be double checking the ones listed as Malaysian produced.. country of origin

I have a high numbered one. Number 5780 and Handcrafted in China.
I think Bob needs to double check his Cape Canaveral. I deleted the Malaysia off of lvhrbrlts, since he did not post it, I must of copied it from Bobs listing.

I think Bob needs to double check his Cape Canaveral. I agree that Bob needs to re-check his #8 Cape Canaveral. By popular demand, I just went down to my cellar and checked my HL 163 Cape Canaveral as requested. Guess what? It has a "Made in China" sticker on it. I don't know why I thought it was a made in Malaysia as posted in my original post. I must be working too hard! Bob

Has anyone heard when and how the rest of the Founder's Collection will be sold? I'm very curious as to what may be left to sell. Bob

Hadn't been on the forums for a couple of weeks and I'm speechless! What fantastic acquisitions you all have made from the FC! Congratulations to all who were able to participate! As several of you have said, it is really HL history in the making!

We still need to hear from the rest of you. According to the voting pole, a few voted about their Founders Collection, but did not share with us what they got.
I realize that some have their reasons, Maybe you feel like it is bragging or you don't want your wife to know. But it is not fair to the rest of us. We still need more info.
How about the number 2 or 10, has anyone received any of those? Any more 3s and 4s? So far, I was the only one to get one. How about more of the original 17, we only have 3 listed.
Many of you come to these forums to get your questions answered. Harbour Lights will even direct people to these forums for certain questions. The information that is learned from these forums is from the gathering of Harbour Light collectors with all their individual experiences and sometimes inside information set before all of us as a seven-course meal. We share with other collectors of what we know, so the amount we can share is dependant on how much others share with us.
Before us is Harbour Lights collecting History and we will not know the big picture with out every Founders collection participants help. If you feel uncomfortable posting please send your list to me to post or someone else on the forums that you may feel more comfortable with.
DANIEL
