Just returned from a volcano-ing trip with my grandson. This is my fourth grandchild trip. We went first to SLC and then to Yellowstone - I don't think Utah or Wyoming or Montana (or Idaho for that matter) have any lighthouses. If they do,I certainly didn't see them. We saw all kinds of thermal features in the Yellowstone caldera though. Then we flew to Honolulu. We were supposed to have an aerial tour of Pearl Harbor, but the company that did that tour went out of business. So instead we went to the Bishop Museum Science section. Afterwards I was going to take a trolley out to Diamond Head to see the lighthouse out there, but the trolley would have been $22 each, so I took a cab instead and it only cost me $30.00 We just saw the lighthouse from the road. Later when we flew out, I took a photo from the air, but the camera didn't focus which was disappointing.

We did a Pearl Harbor tour on the ground, which included the Pacific Aviation Museum. Right outside was the original Pearl Harbor era control tower I also took photos of something I thought might be a lighthouse, but it proved to be just a smokestack Don't know whether this is a crane or some permanent structure. And this looks like it might be part of a range

The ship took us to Maui for two days and there we did the Haleakala Crater, but as far as I know we did not encounter any lighthouses. Then we went to Hilo on the Big Island where we took a helicopter tour of the volcano and got to see some lava ..but no lighthouses. I saw a lighthouse at night when we went around from Hilo to Kona (along with the red lava at the edge of the sea) but could not get a picture. Then we went around to Kona, and we had an outrigger canoe ride. As we went out we saw a lighthouse. I think this must be a minor light of Hawai'i - Kailua Lighthouse

I have this image of you, traveling the world, always on the lookout for an unexpected lighthouse. Thanks Rosalie!

Boy did your pictures bring back memories! My husband and I did the Pride of America cruise to the Hawaiian Islands a few years ago and saw many of the same lighthouses. That is one cruise I would do again in a heartbeat...we loved it...and the fresh pineapple every morning for breakfast was ooohhh so yummy!

Great pics Rosalie! There's talk that USLHS may offer a trip to Hawaii if there's enough interest and I'm setting my sights on that trip! Your pictures are a real teaser and I thank you for sharing them with us.

Rosalie,
Great photos and narrative. Esther and I got to many of the same places as you did on our trips to Hawaii.
I'd highly reccomend a trip to Hawaii to anyone who can swing it- I'm partial to the islands of Kauai ( It has the best lighthouse in Hawaii- Kileaua) and Hawaii (Big Island)( it has the most geographic diversity going from total tropical rain forest to desert to sub-arctic) although on a first trip 2-3 days on Oahu are definitely a thing to do (but need not be repeated).

We only had 2 days in Oahu and didn't see all the lighthouses there.
My daughter, the mother of this grandson, went to Oahu and the Arizona memorial on her trip with my mother and she says her photos are almost identical to the ones her son took. So once is good. Twice isn't necessary.

Rosalie, You always have such great photos of your trips! I have been to Hawaii twice but both were before I became a lighthouse buff. Thanks for sharing your adventures. If I go back to the islands, I will be sure to see those lighthouses you saw.
What is your next adventure?

We have our boat in the water, but haven't been out yet. It's been too hot.
I'm going to see if I can get some respiratory therapy - without an inhaler my lung function is only about 85%.
We are scheduled to go on a cruise to the Bahamas and Caribbean in January. After that, I'll have to see.
