Anyone know where I could look to find maps, information, etc. about lighthouses in the Cote Azure area of France and/or Northern Italy down to Rome? I’ll be making a trip there with a high school class this April, and I can’t seem to find any websites with this information. Are there perhaps some books? I’d hate to lose out on what is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to snap a picture of an old European light. Any help would be appreciated. ~Dale (with her first passport )

Dale: How wonderful! First I would try to get a good map of each country. Find out the name of each country's tourist information office and call them. Tell them what specific things you want information on. Lighthouses! My stuff is real old but France should be the "French Government Tourist Office". Phone is 212-757-1125. By now they probably have a toll free #. Find tourism sites on the web, or call 800 information, buy a NY Times Sunday paper, ask a travel agent. There's a site on Italian lighthouses in the International section of the Internet Index on the HL site. It's hiding now, under "Lighthouses". Check the Internet Index forum. I just posted something about France. Maybe it will help. Look what I just found: http://www.nautica.it/pazzurre/infoeng.htm I have no idea how much this is! You could also try calling HL. With the International Series and now the Pharos Lights they may be able to give you some information. Persevere. Sleuthing is fun! [This message has been edited by mombo (edited 02-17-2000).]

Thanks for the information, Mombo. I'll look into all of it. Went to the link you found. Looks interesting. Now I'll have to convert lire to dollars! Ciao! ~Dale

Here are a couple of sites to start with, plus the best way to search for a foreign lighthouse is to use the word lighthouse in that country's own language. Italian Lighthouses - Italiani Fari http://www.caraba.com/Fari/REGIONE.htm French Lighthouses - Français Phares http://www.enst-bretagne.fr:3000/autour/region/phare/phares.html SaintWackoPaul ' Keep the Flame

Since I am not fluent in any foreign language I use a suggestion the Tim made on 11/3/99. If you need translation done from or to English and a variety of other languages check Babelfish __ /im I use Bablefish to help me translate information from a site that isn't in English. I also use it to translate from English to a foreign language the key words that I am searching to find. SaintWackoPaul ' Keep the Flame
