I had to upload the images in the hotel lobby, because the signal was very weak in our room (couldn't connect). In fact I am adding this while I eat breakfast near the lobby..

Laura, Bodie is undergoing an 18 month overhaul and is covered in scaffolding and the lantern room is covered in a shroud. Upon completion it will be open for climbing, so I'm told. There is an article at www.witn.com

I've seen that Tom. I am looking forward to finally getting to climb Bodie. I guess you are right and I should know better. With the scaffold in place no one is getting near the tower.

Sad to see nothing's been done to restore the 2nd Roanoke River Light--we were there in early March of 2008 and our pictures look no better than yours of that lighthouse. Thought they were working at getting the townspeople worked up to start the ball rolling, but it sure doesn't look like that's happening yet. Those lyrics about not knowing what you have until it's gone certainly seem fitting here.

Sandy

P.S. Paul/Sue, You're having much better weather than we had during our visit and this past weekend as well--certainly am grateful we didn't get snow, but the rains and winds have everyone describing this past weekend as hurricane-like. Hope you two are finding Florida weather better than that!!

Sandy, they are saying the restoration is to start this spring..

I finally am back online, the hotel in Buxton last night didn't have any internet access, it was the internet provider's problem not the hotel's problem but became my problem.

It was very cold and windy at Currituck and of course a very white sky.. Speaking of a white sky..

It was really overcast cold, windy and raining when we stopped at Bodie on the way down to Hatteras..

Great pictures, Paul. I was hoping to get to those lighthouses this summer, but instead I followed your lead and put a deck on my house. Even with all the snow this winter. The deck builder had to shovel the snow off at times to work on it.

Your pictures are fantastic, including those interesting ones of Bodie. I hope I can get to see all those lighthouses perhaps in 2011. They are on my "bucket list."

By the way, fried pickles rock!
Carol

Can't imagine the difficulty putting up or taking down the scaffolding on Bodie Island Light! Hmmmm. . . .wonder if the pieces are numbered.

Wonderful photography Paul, even if that's been your career!!

Thanks for the kind words, folks.. We stayed in Wilmington, NC last night and will be moving down the coastline towards our destination in St. Augustine on Friday..

We are going to try and stop at a few lights on the way depending on time and weather. Fortunately we have been to them all before so if we have to pass them up it isn't as bad as if we hadn't been to them before. I enjoy revisiting lights a lot.

Paul, what sort of activity was going on inside Hatteras with the closed sign, ladder, cones and what looks like an extension cord?

We are at Tybee Island tonight. I think somebody is doing a really good rain dance as we drove in the overcast and rain almost all day. I will post a couple of images from oak Island and a couple of Tybee, but I hopefully will get a better day tomorrow to shoot more Tybee images before we head on to Florida..

Looks like a great tour, Paul! Once again, captured and shared with the folks here at the CF. Stuff like this makes the CF even more interesting. Hopefully, your efforts will encourage other people to join in.

Wonderful pictures Paul. Thanks so much. The only one of these lights I've seen is Oak Island. Forgot the digital and only had a film camera. The fool developers lost my film. Still have the memories though. Don't know about fried pickles. Bodie looks like it's being readied for launch. I didn't know what the first sunrise picture was until I saw the 2nd one. Thought it was a flying saucer. Your photo of St. Augustine with all the people really shows how massive that lighthouse is.

I added a 3rd image of Cockspur Light after finally getting around to downloading some images i shoot with my D2X Nikon Camera and a long lens..

All of the rest of my posted images from the recent trip were shot on my new little Nikon Coolpix P6000 that Sue got me for Christmas..

I have been using this camera for everything I have shot since I got it, except of course for the HL lighthouse images..
