Romer Shoals and Great Beds. I'm working on my web site and need to know where to put them. I already was called down by a New Yorker for putting Latimer Reef in Connecticut. I just don't want it happening again! NPS and Internet Index both have them in New York. New Jersey Lighthouse Society seems to claim Great Beds. Russ Rowlett's Lighthouse Directory places them both in New Jersey. So...Dennis, Shirin, Bob, Kristin, Diane, et al...what's the call?

Larry,
Romer Shoal is a New York Lighthouse. It may be physically closer to land on the NJ side, but it's a NY Lighthouse.
As for Great Beds the best I can tell you is that the sources I can find consider it a NJ Lighthouse. there are very few sources with any info on this Lighthouse. It's ownership was debated in 1880 and it was decided that it was in NJ.(Source National Lighthouse museum Site)
The National Park Service site lists it as a NY Lighthouse, but mentions the fact that some sources place it in NJ. I'd say to be safe, youd have to mention the debate.
I know this doesn't help completely, but it's the best I can offer.

Thanks for the info Dennis & Kristin.
Going by longitude & latitude on Mapquest, it appears that both squeek into New Jersey, but I'm going to put links to them on both New Jersey and New York pages. How's that for compromise?

No Larry, as both Dennis and Kristin have stated it's a NY lighthouse. Latitude and longitude do not a Jersey LH make.lol Bob

I can live with it ether way- as long as Great Beds is listed as a NJ Lighthouse.
There are sources that confirm that. The only thing that shows Romer shoal in NJ is that map and who knows how accurate that is- since it contradicts all other known sources.
I'd go tfor a listing with an explanation of the contradictions.

Larry, New York Lighthouse folks have been touchy ever since the Statue of Liberty was given to New Jersey.

Now Lighthouse Joe...I know you're picking a fight for fun :p ... I'll give you that New Jersey has their Liberty State Park...with a great view of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor ...but the last time I checked, the Statue of Liberty still stands on Liberty Island, NY...of New York, New York 10004
