Just my 2 cents worth...I was on the Keweenaw Star in August with the WILD group as well. John and I took the boat ride to the Apostle Islands on the Friday after we finished with the WILD group.

I can tell you the Keweenaw Star was 100% better for taking pictures. It has a complete walk-around on the bottom deck for viewing or picture taking in addition to the top deck. We were also free to move around the boat at our leisure.

The boat out to the Apostle Islands has limited seating on the upper deck and that is the only place you can be to get any pictures. The bottom deck is enclosed and you are not allowed to stand or move around from where your ticket was assigned. There were quite a few frustrated people in line when they found out their tickets were not good for sitting on the upper deck. Thank goodness that we had people tell us to request the upper deck.
