Thanks to the members of New England Lighthouse Lovers (NELL, a Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation) and to all of you who have supported the NELL fundraisers, the Dutch Island Lighthouse Society (DILS) received some much-needed reservation/restoration funds yesterday (November 17, 2001) in the form of a check for $1200. This money was approved by the NELL membership at their annual Fall meeting back in September of this year.

The photo above was taken at the beautiful home of Dr. Peter Randall and his wife Posey on the shores of Narragansett Bay, within site of Dutch Island Light. Attending the presentation, and accepting the check, was some of DILS BOD including: President Dave Lombardi, Treasurer Keith Fornal, and Directors-at-Large Dr. Peter Randall and Shirley Sheldon (who, as an artist, has used Dutch Island Lighthouse as her Motif #1 over the past 50 years). Shirley’s work is replicated on the tee shirts and other items that DILS has available for sale on their website http://www.lighthouse.cc/DILS/board.html . Presenting the check from NELL are Treasurer Penny Patch-Bartnicki with husband Chuck Bartnicki and NELL President Ron Foster.

Dutch Island Lighthouse Society is also a Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. Please, visit DILS website, http://www.lighthouse.cc/DILS/board.html , in order to learn more about their mission and how you may be able to help. Be sure to check out the merchandise they have available.

Thank You All for Your Support!!

Great job to both you Ron and the NELL organization. There is always a feeling of pride and satisfaction when a group feels that they have helped contribute to keeping these beautiful lights, hopefully around for the next generations to enjoy.
WELL DONE!

Congratulations to the members of NELL for putting the money you have raised to good use in support of lighthouse preservation. And, thanks to all who have supported NELL by purchasing their products and helping to raise these funds!

Not too much island left there, Ron! May need to change the name to Dutch Rock Light!

If we can raise enough money to double the size of the island we could call it "Double Dutch".

Wow!...you're not kidding about calling it Dutch rock...Looks like that Island may be smaller than our "Execution Rock" out off the north shore of Long Island - if that's the whole island now?
In the some of the pictures on the website, it looks like there was a lot more land there where the lighthouse was in the late 19th century - is there a big erosion problem there? - or has the sea level just risen? - maybe a combination of both?
It's hard to believe that the island was once used for pasturing sheep?(read that on the website history section) I'm not getting a good idea of how large the island actually still is, right - just not seeing the entire size of the island in your picture? Is it just the point of the island? The history page also mentioned that the island was 81 acres?
Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just full of them, aren't I?

Kristin, the picture of the lighthouse above is very deceiving. It is actually the tip of the island. Check out the picture at the following link.

Thanks for the pictures Ron! Looks like The Dutch Island Light needs some real help! I hope it can be saved! It looks really unique. It would make a great figurine -Harbour Lights!
