This is a short report until I have the pictures back and can post a more complete one at
www.HarbourLights.com.I had the pleasure of attending the relighting of the Tybee Island Light Station on Sunday, February 28.
The tower looked great - new stucco, black-white-black stripes. The entrance room to the tower is still being worked on. I did not get a chance to climb it since there was always a long line.
Cullen Chambers, who took on the task of restoring Tybee Light, was a very gracious host at a reception held the night before, but was strictly in the background on the "Tybee Days" celebration on Sunday.
To top the evening off, a bagpiper played "Amazing Grace" from the catwalk at the top of the lighthouse, followed by the 1st Order Fresnel being lit and a fireworks display from the catwalk and a few seconds later, a 10-15 minute display on the beach. Fortunately, I was on the 'right' side of the lighthouse so I could get both the lighthouse and fireworks in one picture. Hope those turn out!!
The contribution of Harbour Lights and Harbour Lights collectors was recognized both at the Saturday reception and on Sunday, before a crowd of about 2,000.
While at Tybee, I had met up with several collectors including Betty & John O'Brien, Jim & Kala Pepper, and Derith Bennett & hubby.
Stay tuned.
