Dennis, for me there is only one Jersey Shore. I'm from Toms River, NJ.
I know I could have bought my Wacko badge already, but kind of wanted to tie it in with becoming an offical CF Wacko.

Well, Eric I never said Dave was unique. There are many people here that fit that same description- and there are times when it seems there are too many. Dennis

I know I could have bought my Wacko badge already, but kind of wanted to tie it in with becoming an offical CF Wacko. Just joking- many don't know there actually is a town in central PA called Jersey Shore. I just checked wikipedia and found this reason for the name- Why "Jersey Shore"? Jersey Shore was originally named Waynesburg by the two brothers, Reuben and Jeremiah Manning, who laid out the town. Around the time that this was happening, a settlement arose on the eastern side of the Susquehanna River (Nippenose Township), opposite Waynesburg. A rivalry developed between the two settlements, and those on the eastern shore began referring to the settlement on the western shore as the "Jersey Shore," because the Manning family had relocated from New Jersey. The nickname became so fixed that in 1826 the original name of Waynesburg was officially abandoned and changed to Jersey Shore. Dennis

Dennis, Thanks for the info on Jersey Shore, PA. Must sound a bit odd to some in PA to say there from Jersey Shore when there's no oceans or bays around.

The question I would have is - Why did brothers named Reuben and Jeremiah Manning call the town they started Waynesboro?
Who was Wayne?

Who was Wayne? I think the real question was what was Wayne. I could find no confirmation of this but it's possible that the Mannings moved from the city of Wayne, NJ to PA. Hence the term Waynesboro. I did find that at one point in time the area of Wayne was part of New Barbadoes township in Essex County. I also found that Reuben Manning came from Essex County. I also did find that the town of Wayne, NJ was renamed after General Anthony "Mad" Wayne of Revolutionary War fame. Dennis

Bring this back to the top, for the new members. For those who don't know this is also a fund raiser. This year the proceeds will go to rebuild Cape St. George Lighthouse in Florida. Email me if you have any questions on the lighthouse.

Marion Michael Morrison, recieved his stage name from a director who admired General Wayne. At the bottom of this page is a list of places and things named after General Wayne. Another of which is Bruce Wayne from "Batman" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Wayne

Returning to the original purpose of this thread - the 2006 Wacko Badge. Getting close to last call. Any of you who have yet to order and would like one this is the time to do so. I would like to get the folks at Cape St. George a check in the not-too-distant future as they are in need of money to pay some of the bills. I'd love to have a bunch of you who have yet to order step up and make your purchase so we can hit a nice round $1000 or so for them. Right now we are somewhat below that - need about 35 of you new folks to "ante up" for preservation . . . . please . . . . You can place an order here .

This project will end next week. If you don't have your 2006 badge please order it ASAP. Funds will be given to the St. George folks to help with their rather massive undertaking. Every dollar helps!
