I thought I would add this post to let every one vote their choice on whether or not to redo Coquille river. I thought I would add 4 choices to chose from and it would be assumed that any new version would be 8 sided.
Please use this posting to vote only and keep discusion to the other existing post on this subject.
Also you may add whether or not you have a retired Coquille allready
1- no new Coquille 2- yes, limited finish 5,500 run 3- yes, limited finish run to 10,000 4- yes, GLOW- open edition
My vote is : yes limited finish to 10,000 and I do have a retired Coquille

Go with a 10,000 LE run. Do not have a 6-sided Coquille.

4 - Make Coquille GLOW! (pun intended) Don't own the other one, never will.
I really don't think that options 2 and 3 are possible. The piece is RETIRED. Remember Burows Island, they RETIRED it because it wasn't selling. The factory kept making them. HL destroyed those made after announcing the retirement.

1- No GLOW. Doesn't meet the criteria.

I guess 1 is my choice. I have no real interest in the piece.

Number 1 is my choice. No new Coquille. I do not have the LE.

Either 2 or 3 would be preferrable, although if it was decided that #4 was the way to go, we would still buy it since it is a heavy sentimental favorite of ours. We do NOT own one. My logic is that (IMHO) there should be an "accurate" version of any piece done prior to any GLOW versions ever being released.

1 - no new Coquille
a) let's not un-retire retired LE's b) it's not right for a GLOW c) the current situation adds to the mystique of the piece and the collectibility of the line

#4 GLOW - Respect the concept of LEs and those owning them.
I would like to have a "complete" collection even if it is not made entirely of LEs. When I win the lottery, I'll buy a Coquille LE to make it all legitimate. (Look for my face next to Dick & Ed then e-mail me your Coquille LE asking price).

Yes, definitely, let Harbour Lights come out with a GLOW. Of course, we all would love to have the limited, but in reality some of the GLOWS look better than the original limiteds, are a more accurate representation for accompanying buildings and landscape. It would be nice to have one to round out a collection. Having a GLOW will not bring down the price or desirability of owning the real thing! Owning a zircon has never dimmed the desire to own a REAL diamond!

I wasn't going to post my choice but after thinking about it for a couple of days I decided to go ahead. I own a LE #111 and it was a goal of mine to acquire when I first started collecting.
I think that HL should go ahead and make an OE Coquille version.
Now the reasons:
First I don't think it will effect the price of the LE that much, if at all. There is a history behind the limited Coquille piece that should always keep its value near the top of the HL limited editions.
Secondly and more important to me is that the community at Bandon, OR really wants it to be made and if making the Open Edition means helping the community and the actual lighthouse itself then I am all for it.

4 - Make Coquille GLOW
A couple of months ago my wife and I were talking to Bill Younger at a special event. When we mentioned that we grew up in Oregon, he said they were planning to introduce a Coquille GLOW piece next year. We likely will never be able to own a Coquille LE so we were looking forward to being able to get an OE to help complete our Oregon collection.

Paul's second point (see engbrady above - "...helping the Community and Lighthouse") should be the primary driving force behind the production of any GLOW.

Paul is aware, but perhaps other some new collectors are not -- a portion of the proceeds from each GLOW lighthouse goes to the organization that is helping to maintain or preserve that lighthouse.

Go for the GLOW. I don't thinks GLOWs diminish the LEs.

I haven't made up my mind between #1 and #4, but I'll ask this question:
Is Coquille River one of the Great Lighthouses of the World?

One the "Great" Lighthouses of the World? Well I'd say it is currently appearing in more advertising than any other lighthouse in the world. TV, Print -- even radio. It's "Great" with Art Directors and Agencies. John [Well maybe NOT radio, it's hard to tell in the dark.] [This message has been edited by JChidester.]

#4-GLOW. My daughter lives in Oregon and I have all the Oregon lights that HL has out except Coquille. Since my immediate chances of getting an LE are pretty slim, the best chance that I have is an OE.

#4 Make the Coquille GLOW! I especially agree with Paul Brady about the benefits to the community and to the light itself re sale of a Coquille GLOW. Make it...we'll buy it! I do not have a LE of this piece.

(4) Make the GLOW. We would fill in the gaps in our collection with GLOWS if they were available. I don't know how lighthouses are selected to be included as HL sculptures, but I would like to have sculptures of some of the lighthouses that are badly in need of repair and that people are trying to save, such as Sand Island in Mobile Bay AL.

Well, Jim. If your daughter lives anywhere NEAR Bandon, the best chance you have would be to send her there on weekends going door-to-door with a picture of the original LE and a wad of $100 bills. I suspect there may be a few score (or more) of those 7 year old Coquille River 'statues' that were bought up by locals. Heck, you could even offer to pay them cash now AND send them a MUCH better replica of the beloved Bandon Light in a few months as a bonus!! John [Guess you should send some $20 bills to to pay for leads to people who have them.]

But Jim -- my point is these locally-owned Coquille River 'statues' aren't collectibles that have appreciated to their owners -- but rather dustcatchers, doorstops and tag/yard/garage sale fodder. I was thinking you could pick them up for $100 apiece!

#4 - make the GLOW I was leaning on #1, but I really liked Paul's thoughts on the matter. Don't own one, but hopefully will someday, and if the Glow does affect the LE version, which I don't believe it will significantly, then maybe I just might!

If we have to vote for just one than OE of Coquille is my vote. 2nd choice would be to finish the original edition of 5500. jake
