These two lighthouses are on the island of Poel in the Baltic Sea. The island was a "resticted area" when it was still part of East Germany and you could only get on the island with special permition. The reason? It is within
swimming distance of
West German coastlines and therefore an easy and favoured take-off point for escape attempts. Thank God that madness is over!
