The basics:
We all know or could count up the number of lighthouses that we've seen as individuals, couples or families but the other day I got wondering how many we've seen as a group. Maybe it would be fun to list them here. We could start with one state and see how many we've seen in that state and go from there.
Here's the rules. Only one person posts the same lighthouse. One post per person per day. When we get stuck we'll move on to another state. Latecomers can add a new lighthouse to a previous state. After we've finished all the states I'll tally up the final result. A "seen" lighthouse can include a distant view. Seen is seen. For this purpose it's quantity we're looking for! Reproductions are ok but not faux lighthouses.

Reposting the list of NY lights we still need on the lighthousestickers.com list: Galloo Island New Dorp North Brother Island Old Orchard Shoal Robbins Reef Split Rock If you've seen one of these, please post it! I'll edit this list as they are seen so you can have an up-to-date reference.

Greg, Think you edited list to remove Robbins Reef as you think it's a NJ light. Also, in addition to the list of lights you indicate are still unseen (Galloo Island, New Dorp, North Brother Island, Old Orchard Shoal, Split Rock Point), I show the following as "unseen":
Blackwell Island Light Cayuga Inlet Light Cayuga Inlet Breakwater Gardiners Island (ruins) Great Beds Light King's Point Light Lido Beach Light Rondout Creek I (foundation only) Shinnecock Light Shoal Point Light Throg's Neck Whitestone Point
I also show a light with a list number (34360) at Kingsborough Community College and a light with a list number (19985) at Montauk Yacht Club, but I don't have enough information readily available to determine if either of those lights are "true" lights. The fact that I've listed their Light list numbers and have not indicated that they're faux lights makes me think both of them were active lighthouses and have been moved onto their respective sites.
If my list is correct and the above two are included, there are 19 lights remaining. Sandy

I've seen the ruins at Gardiner's Island. However, they are not ruins of the lighthouse, but ruins of Fort Terry that was placed there after the lighthouse fell into the water.

Sandy- You have a lot of lights in there I've never heard of! Most of them seem to be on inland lakes. Some are also ruins, etc. We are going to have to put a limit on those kinds of "lights", or else we'll be stuck on New York forever. I Googled each of these lights. Here's my findings on the lights: Blackwell Island Light - Have it...same as Roosevelt Island. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Cayuga Inlet Light On an inland lake. This is pushing it. Cayuga Inlet Breakwater Same as above. Gardiners Island (ruins) Seems to be just ruins, if there's anything left at all. I'll ask my dad if there is anything left (this is around where he goes sailing), but I think this is out. Great Beds Light Definitely NJ. It's on my NJ poster, it's in an NJ river...no dispute on this one. King's Point Light Nothing came up on a Google...this one's out. Lido Beach Light Nothing came up on a Google except for a navigational aids list and a porn site. Rondout Creek I (foundation only) If there's just a foundation, it's out. Shinnecock Light If someone's seen it, this can count, but as it was torn down in 1948, we'd be hard pressed to find someone. Shoal Point Light Seems to be being restored, etc...on an inland lake. People seem to care about it...if someone's seen it, this can count. Throg's Neck Just a square steel tower nowadays...this is really pushing it. Whitestone Point Used to be really cool ( link ), but now just a skeleton...this is out. Thanks for the list, though, Sandy! I just saw quite a bit of New York Googling these lights! We have to put a limit somehwhere, though.

Lots of chatter going on here. As I stated already I don't think we have to get into a big to-do about what state a lighthouse may or may not be located in. So I'm not removing Stratford Shoal as I've already counted it, just won't count it again. Since we are now at 74 lights seen I'm going to move us on to the next state. If anyone still wants to post any that they consider a NY light feel free. In the meantime we'll move over to the left coast and see who's seen lighthouses in Oregon. Not me, so let's see who's seen them!

Greg, I use www.unc.edu/~rowlett/lighthouse/State name.htm to compile my lighthouse lists. Blackwell Island is also Roosevelt Island--my mistake. Somebody gave Myers Point Lighthouse as a NY lighthouse they'd seen. It's located on Cayuga Lake and nobody squawked. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all the Hudson River lights are inland, as are all those on the St. Lawrence Seaway Trail. Besides, the ground rules stated ". . . . A 'seen' lighthouse can include a distant view. Seen is seen. For this purpose it's quantity we're looking for! Reproductions are ok but not faux lighthouses." If you're going to change the rules of the game, you've gotta' let the players know. Sandy

New York is a wacky lighthouse state. There are so many lighthouse environments - the Great Lakes, the Hudson, New York Harbor, Long Island, and the inland lights. That makes it all very disputable. I think moving on is a good idea. I havn't seen any Oregon lights, but I know someone must have!

We have 8 in Oregon with a few left, a couple of which are pretty new and private aids so let's change directions and head back east to the next state which is South Carolina.
(Still fine to post additional lights seen in NY and OR.)

Havn't seen any there, either...south of Ocracoke, have only seen one light, St. Simons, which ironically was the beginning of it all.

Harbour Town, aka, Sea Pines (Hilton Head Island), some people don't really consider this a lighthouse and we were very disappointed when we saw it, but....alot of people do consider it a lighthouse and HL produced a replica of it.

I guess I'm not going to contribute much to the rest of this thread since you started off with the state I've seen the most lights. I'll try to jump back in when you start Maine.

I'll add one most have not seen and many don't even know about: Grand Lake St. Mary

Thanks for reminding me Dave. Today's entry will be the Cedar Point Lighthouse at Lighthouse Point which is in a camping area at the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. This lighthouse sits to the south, across the Sandusky Bay, from the Marblehead Lighthouse.

Bud Schrader already posted Cedar Point in his post of three. But does it count, because there was only supposed to be one light? I'm going to make an "executive decision" to make things easier and avoid several posts of questions. Bud's entry is only for South Bass Island (the first one of the three he listed), Tom's entry will be the one for Cedar Point, and Perry Memorial is still up for grabs.

Greg, I already checked off the three lights so there's no need to repete them. By now Bud could have posted three times anyway. We just won't let him get away with that again!

I don't think Conneaut Harbor Light has been mentioned. We stopped three places in town to get the correct pronunciation and still forgot what it was by the time we got home.

Although its related to another game going on right now Gary, the pronunciation I believe is CAW-nee-awt...or Connie Ought...at least that is how the lake that is in western PA of the same name is pronounced.

John, why didn't you post one of the other missing lights? If you saw Cleveland East, I know you saw at least one more . . . .

It was because I was having a "blond" moment Dave. I had logged on at lunch with the intent on posting Cleveland West Pierhead , but I saw Gary's post about Conneaut, responded to it and then forgot about my original intent for logging on until now.

We seem to be stuck on 19 Ohio Lighthouses so we'll move along, this time to the Gulf Coast. Because they have so few we'll do Alabama and Mississippi together.

I'm also going to start those states in a new thread, as this one is at 56 posts.
