Thanks for the quick responses everybody. Seconds and thirds , etc are good. In fact it's the only way a Lighthouse is going to make it to the Final Vote. I hope you all remember to make my life easier and check for that non-profit group before you nominate the Lighthouse. I'm a lazy sort, after all. Dennis

All good choices so far- but let's hear from some of those proponents of the West Coast and Great Lakes Lighthouses.
Remember also it doesn't have to have been made as a HL product this time around. It can be a HL product, but doesn't have to be.

My first choice would be North Light, Block Island hoping it may bring more attention to Harbour Lights finally creating that light. My second choice would be Dutch Island Light Jamestown, RI. I pass this light all the time on our boat and it really needs some help. My third choice would be Cedar Point Light Long Island, NY. I have visited this light a few times and it is very unique. It would also make a great HL. My fourth choice would be Race Point Light Provincetown, MA. They've done some great work out there. I really enjoyed my tour of the light during the "Headlights for Lighthouses" event last Spring. My fifth choice would be Sakonnet Point Light Little Compton, RI. This light received a lot of attention and I believe was relit around 1997. Who ever the volunteers were that restored this light certainly deserve a lot of credit for their work. I often pass this light on my way to Cuttyhunk Island and Martha's Vineyard. It looks great! Bob

Hey everybody these nominations are great but I want to remind everyone to do a little research before you nominate a Lighthouse.
I'm going to take several out of the running for the nomination due to not being in compliance with the posted rules for this process. Please do not add your nomination for the following Lighthouses at this point.
Here they are. If you can find any information refuting my decision please send it along and I'll add them back to the list-
Outer Island, WI- government owned. no evidence found of a non-profit group in place
Raspberry Island, WI- government owned. no evidence of a non-profit group in place.
New Bedford Lightship- government owned. no evidence of a non-profit group in place.
Brandywine Shoal- government owned. no non-profit group in place.
Fort niagra, NY- state park. no non-profit group involved.
Morris Island, SC- prior Wacko Badge.
Thanks for all the nominations. I again ask if you have a website for the Lighthouse or a link to the non-profit group list it in your nominations to help others decide who to nominate.

My vote is for Cedar Island, NY . This beautiful lighthouse is located on Long Island. As you can see from the picture, it has very nice stone work and the exterior looks to be in decent condition.

Eastpoint,
I knew what the first one on your list was going to be.
Unfortunately your second one- Brandywine Shoal doesn't comply with the rules so I'm taking it out of the running.
Your third choice Cedar Island is the frontrunner at this point.

4) Cedar Island, NY. This light really deserves it!
I'd make Pt. Sur a candidate, but with the $1000 we have already donated to this light through the prism project, I'd like to give another light a chance to "share the wealth".

As if you don't see this one coming...
Cedar Island Lighthouse, East Hampton, NY
After all, the restoration effort was begun by Wackos right here on these message boards (Bob and Mike: Raise your hands and wave to all the nice people).
The only thing preventing its nomination in the past was the requirement to be a HL piece. Maybe a Wacko pin would be good luck in that respect, too.

Pigeon Pt would be a great choice.
Sorry Dennis. I didn't realize Morris Island had been a wacko badge before. I knew it had been a pin a couple years back, but not a badge.

I'm 99% positive that there is/was a Crooked River non-profit. They even had a website. Don't know what happened. Isn't that light also known as Carabelle?

Greg,
You are correct. I found an address for the Carrabelle Lighthouse Association but the website seems to be down or gone.
So Crooked River/Carrabelle lighthouse is back in the running.
Thanks for the assist.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here but...
I feel if we have already donated as a group to one specific lighthouse then we should pick a new one. This is in reference to Point Sur. I know the Desert Lightkeepers just donated $1000 and I would think that most of that money raised came from the collector forums.

Lorie,
I agree with you about Point Sur and others have mentioned the same thing but if people want to nominate it it will be listed and the votes counted.
It meets the criteria set in the rules. Hopefully most will rethink nominating it.

While it would be a nice cooperative project only US lights are eligible for consideration.
I'm taking East Quoddy out of the nominations.

That's too bad...they had a neat site if I remember. I will then vote for... 5) Carabelle/Crooked River Light 6) East Point Light...having seen this one get better when I visited it on the 2000 and 2002 challenges, and hearing how it is even better now, I think it would be great to help keep their efforts going. I know I have a lot of seconds, thirds, fourths, etc., but don't forget, that's the only way for a light to get electoral votes...eh...voted. I'm still in election mode.

I nominate POTTAWATOMIE Lighthouse, Rock Island, Door County, Wisconsin
Many WACKOs at the May 15, 2004 dedication ceremony and open house wanted to know where the FRESNEL LENS was!! Well, the Friends of Rock Island want to have a replica 4th Order FRESNEL LENS made and installed in the lantern room by the next Door County Lighthouse Walk in May 2005! The cost for the lens and installation is $26,000. They have a 50/50 grant and need to raise $13,000.
This WACKO badge promotion would help Pottawatomie get a long missing 4th ORDER FRESNEL LENS back in the Lantern Room! Wouldn't this be great?!

I'm glad to see so many people chiming in with nominations. I'm also glad to see that we are looking to share the wealth- let's get some more West Coast and Gulf Coast nominations in here. Coquille for example came in second in the final vote last year- where are all those who nominated it last year? I'm not trying to slight any area- or influence the nominations. I'd just like to see a good cross section of choices for the final vote. Remember- vote early and vote often- and here you can actully vote often. Well, up to 10 times, that is. Dennis

Rich,
I'm taking Sapelo Island, GA out of the running. It is state owned and does not seem to have a private non-profit group connected with it.

I'm taking North Head, WA out of the running due to it's being owned by the state with no private non-profit group that I can find.
