Here is a shot of Matagorda's 2nd lens located in Port Lavaca.


There is an interesting story about the first lens. It is told that during the civil war it was buried on the island by the Confederate army. By doing this they prevented the Union army from using the lighthouse during the war. However, it has never been recovered. To this day it remains missing in action somewhere on the island. If you plan a visit to Matagorda Island plan ahead and take a shovel. You never can tell you might get lucky. But, you will have better luck in our drawing!
