Top Ten on Ebay

1.Gold St Clair 2003 Event $1,284.99
Quote:
This was displayed only for a short time after winning kept in a curio cabinet in a room without any sunshine or our family room in the basement. Handled only with love and care. This comes from a smoke free home in the original box. This piece is in MINT - like new condition.
I believe this is the highest so far that a Store event has gone for on ebay. I also feel that it is well worth it and if I could I would be in there fighting for these rare gold beauties too.
Since collectors are starting to wake up and realizing that the gold is a Harbour Light L.E. and not an accessory. It is part of having a complete collection. I think many collectors have ostracized the gold and would not except it as part of the Limited edition collection. I’ve heard collectors in the past say they would rather have a coquille or some other L.E. The coquille is not even in the same class for being rare as these gold event pieces.
The collector that won this bid (who ever he is) must be agreeing with my top ten review and is a wise (financially independent) collector that has made a wise choice going after this bid. Go for the Gold.

2. Coney Island 2001 Society Exclusive $255

Quote:
Terrific detail in this impressive sculpture. Limited to 7000 pieces and much sought after lighthouse. New in Box
This is obvious one of those bidding wars. Usually goes on ebay between $45 and $55

3. #126 "NAUSET BEACH" $172.50

Numbered 4419 of 5500. The lighthouse is in mint condition. Lighthouse comes with the original box and paperwork. Offered with no reserve.

It’s nice to see Nauset making a rebound. The price is close to what the value was in 1998. $175 to $200. Nauset is one of my favorites and was one of the main reasons that I couldn’t just collect lighthouse that I saw or was just in my collecting area. This is a popular collectable and if you don’t have one I highly recommend it. It has held its value through the years and it even comes in the “Made in Canada version”.

4. HL129 NEW LONDON LEDGE $145.55

Limited Edition of 5,500. This is # 4442 SIGNED " B Younger “ DATED 1991 retired IN 1995. This is Malaysian with Blue Water. From a private collection and was kept in a glass case in a non-smoking and non-pet home.

Again an other one making a rebound. The price is what the value was in 1998. $125 to $165. An other one of my favorites and has held its value. Anyone that collects this one must get both water color versions.

5. Portsmouth lighted vessel No 101 AB109S 1998 $140.38

In mint condition with original box and certificate of authencity. 1623/4000. Comes with wooden stand and glass cover.

This sold for $170 retail. I feel that the $140.38 is a fair price.
We should be at the end of the era of the A.B. dumping and start to see a turn around in the price for the early Anchor Bays.

6. BIG BAY POINT MICHIGAN #700 $127.52

Name :BIG BAY POINT MICHIGAN #HL700
“1995 FIRST SERIES OF CHRISTMAS LIGHT HOUSES LIMITED EDITION OF 5,000. NEW IN THE ORIGINAL BOX WITH ALL PAPERWORK “

This is low for a Big Bay. It is normal for lighthouses to go for less in the summertime. There has been a lot of Big Bay dumping in the past two years and its still has been able to keep a good secondary market. I think Big Bay will start to recover in its value for this Christmas and have the $200 plus return as it has in the past.

7. Stratford Point 2003 Christmas $105.09

“Box is in perfect condition, but is missing the certificate of authenticity”

Again a bidding war with the same collector as the Coney Island.

8. 125 Portland Head $101.99

Numbered 2344/5500. Across the stone where the name and date is has a very minor nick (see picture) and there are also minor paint chips. No box.

This is less than half of what they usually go for. I would accredit the low price to no box and paint chips.

9. PONCE DE LEON FLORIDA #132 $100
This is number 2855 and comes with original box.
This is a steal. Last one we talk about went for $175

The Southern Bells have been on the low side for well over a year and a half. This is definitely the time to buy one. I do expect them to pick back up in the fall and for Christmas.

10. North Head HL 106 $95
Number 2242/5500 and is new in box.
Of course, this is on the high side. When I started collecting in 97 there were several Harbour Lights that could still be found at dealers. They were the group of what my dealer called “We thought we would never get rid of them” By 97 the popular lights were off the dealers shelves but there was 5500’s that was still obtainable. They were:

HL106 North Head- WA
HL107 Umpqua River-OR
HL109 Cape blanco- OR
HL110 Yaquina Head-OR
HL112 Sand Island- WI
HL115 St. George's Reef- CA
HL120 Grosse Point- IL
HL122 Buffalo- NY
HL144 Heceta Head- OR
HL146 Bolivar- TX
HL147 Port Isabel- TX
HL148 New Canal- LA
HL149 Biloxi- MS

My name for these lights was “the retail lights”. I could get these at retail and they were never considered as the collectable ones. I bought them because they were of the old ones and I could have a early Harbour Light without paying a arm and a leg for one. Of course, the California or Canadian or ones with lighting rods are highly sought after and is no way in the same group as these.
They have been retired now for 9 years and are well saturated into the puplic. They have held there own and generally go from $25 to retail and sometimes more. If you are interested in collecting some of the early ones I highly recommend these. They are reasonable and I doubt the value will ever change. Some of them may even go for more than retail, like the North Head, Buffalo and Yaquina Head. I have seen the Mylasian Yaquina go for over $100 and if it has a rod it has gone as high as $150. The North Head has also followed into to this secondary market range. Now new Canal and Isabel is an other story they are lucky to ever go for more than $35. I probally shouldn't have grouped the above together. In 97 they were all in about the same collecting range but now in 2005 Buffalo, North Head, and Yaquina Head has definitely pulled ahead of the rest and new Canal and Isabel has fallen behind.

Value: retail to $100 without rod.

I clarified number ten a little better. I grouped some of the early harbor lights together. They were grouped together in value in 1997 but several of these have pulled ahead in their secondary market value.
