Top Ten on ebay for July 29, 2005

It has been one year since I started the top ten Ebay report. Harbour Lights was in the lowest slump ever last year. I started my report because I love talking about the early made Harbour Lights and I wanted to put excitement back into collecting. It shows On many of the lighthouses below I listed how the prices raised over the year.

1. Harbour Lights Lighthouse Lot of 5 $750

Four HL Lighthouses for one bid: HL118 Old Mackinac ~ HL122 Buffalo ~ HL119 Cana Island ~ HL Admiralty Head ~ HL104 Sandy Hook
All excellent condition with original boxes.

This seems high to me. That would make them at $150 a piece.
For that price maybe they all had low numbers.

THIS PIECE'S NUMBER IS 3612/5,500 and is in New, Mint condition, Come with orginal box and all paper work and C.O.A.

3. Portland Head #125 $350.67

#4366 of 5500. It is in the original box and has the certificate of authenticity and all other paperwork.

A very clean looking piece. A nice rebound for the Portland. This is the third time it made the top ten since I started it. Low was $145 a year ago. $219 back in March of this year. And the high is this bid of $350.67. Portland head was considered number 3 of the most desirable Harbour lights (Third only to Hatteras and Coquille). It sold For$750 in Harbour Lights hay day years.

4. PHAROS PC 101, PC 103, PC 105, PC 107 $200 plus $90 shipping
This list includes four of the five-piece full set of the Pharos Collection. It is offered in the original box
PC 101 Portland Bill # 2307

PC 105 Ballinacourty # 2372
PC 107 Bell Rock # 2143
These are being sold by Mark from the UK “All Things Nautical” website. This is the web site that brought almost 200 sets of the Pharos to the US. This is an incomplete set and sill brought in more than what Pharos was going for last year when one went for $150 on ebay. The Pharos has risen this year to $380 on ebay and over $450 at the market place.

5. NAUSET BEACH MA #126 $192.50

Flag 2139. This piece is in perfect condition, mint in box, stored climate controlled, smoke and pet free. This piece was signed by Bill Younger on a visit to Charleston SC.

I think the going value is between $160 and $190. This is the third one this month that went for more than $160. Looks like a strong secondary market and not just a bidding war. The Nauset is a must for any collector.

6. Fifth Order Fresnel Lens #631 $223.55 The 631 has a substantial secondary market. It is not unusual to see this one shoot over $200. The Fifth order lens fluctuates on ebay from $135 to $275. For you ebay trackers the following are the highs for the past year: $135, $177.50, $178.06, $223.55 & $275.17

7. HARBOUR LIGHTS BRITISH ISLES COLLECTION $150
LONGSTONE, OLD LUNDY and BISHOPS ROCK
They are offered in their original white box.
The only thing that is Harbour lights about these is the name. 15 of these sets have been sent to the US through the All Things Nautical website. The lighthouses were made for the British market at John Hines Studios in England in 2000. Harbour lights was not involved in the design or any aspect of making them. They are made of plaster instead of the cold cast porcelain that Harbour Lights uses. This makes the British Isles very prone to breakage.
The British Isles is no way in the category of Pharos collection, which was designed, and Marketed by Harbour Lights. They lack the detail such as was with the Pharos and many collectors compare the British Isles with the style of the early Harbour Lights. I feel you don’t have to have the British Isles collection to say you have all the Harbour Lights, but since it does have the Harbour Light name it would definitely make a nice complement to a HL collection.

9. North Head, Washington #1887 $120

Mint condition, in original box with Certificate of Authenticity.

The north Head has been keeping a very good secondary market. Last month one went for $95. I feel that it will keep its popularity for a while, well into the Christmas season.

I am going to raise its value to $100 to $120
