I was wondering what the general consensus was on a piece I just got off ebay... I have one gold piece in my collection that I won at an event (Mark Twain's) and saw the gold Eddystone listed on ebay. I won it at $565 which was about the top I was able to bid. Does anybody have a "feel" for what the price on these pieces typically run? I had never seen the piece listed before and had only seen the gold Eddystone in a picture on their website. Thanks a lot! Don

I would think a heck of a lot more than you paid for it!

It's worth whatever someone is willing to give you for it. Obviously, it was worth $565 to you so you have a rough baseline there. Somewhere along the line, we have all seen the charity auctions where gold pieces bring their most. About the most I've seen for a gold piece was around $5000. I would say the rarer gold pieces could sell for around $2500. I'm not sure how many Eddystone Golds were made, but I would think you got a really good deal for the price you paid. It all comes back to being in the right place at the right time, and that applies to both buying and selling. Congrats on adding such a great piece to your collection! Bob

Congratulations Don on your addition. What are the gold pieces made of? Hilari, I won the Three Sisters a while back. I'll bring it next time we see each other so you can see what they look like.

The first gold Eddystone, as I recall, was given away at Rosemont, probably in 2000. One was given to the new Houston Lightkeepers Club to auction off in 2002. Several of us know where #'s 3, 4, 5 & 6 are. Again going on memory, #7 was given by luck of the draw at the Door County gathering I put together in 2004. Memory also says one (#8) was given away in one of the drawings on Mackinac at the Thursday morning festivities. So, maybe two unaccounted for?

Did anyone ever come up with an inventory of 'Gold HLs' and how many of each were issued? I would imagine there's got to be some purchase orders in HL archives someplace. I know who has a 1 of 1. Bob PS Will there be anymore in the future?

The Gold SE Block Island on the Move I won at NELL's benefit on Block Island in 2003 is not numbered. I obtained information that 250 pieces were issued.
The Gold Golden Gate Bridge I won on an eBay auction is #21 of 250 pieces issued.

Bob Scroope asks... PS Will there be anymore in the future? 6 Full Size Gold-Plated Pewter Admiralty Heads this year 2 @ each of the Regionals + 2 more for those who can't attend a regional. www.HarbourLights.com/events/regional.htm 17 Gold Miniature El Morro PR (based on the Little Light): 1 at each of the In-Store events. Must be present at the event drawing to win. www.HarbourLights.com/events/index.htm Perhaps a few one-off pieces.

Paul/John,
Any way to confirm how many Gold SE Block on the Move pieces were produced? My "250" came from Harbour Lights in a response to an email I sent. Is there someone responsible for maintaining an inventory as to number produced? The Product History didn't have anything on any of the gold pieces and that information would be important to some people (like me). Any information you can provide would be helpful.

I think the person who emailed you was confused, there were only 22 Southeast Block Island Gold Lighthouses produced.. They probably confused it with the amount of the Golden Gate Bridge or the St.Clair Event piece that year..
The reason I know other than hearing it directly from Bill is that one of them was damaged when being readied to be shipped to a Regional and they had to have another one produced as a replacement, they had no extras.. If they had produced 250 that wouldn't have been a problem..
The Southeast Block Gold Lighthouses were only produced for the NELL Event and the four Regionals.. Whoever sent you the email was in error.. Trust me I know this for a fact, but if it makes you feel any better I will check with Harry the next time I talk to him.
By the way Dave Dutcher won two at the San Diego regional which caused Harbour Lights to change the rules for Regional pieces the next Regional..

Several years ago we raised money for Sabine Pass. Harbour Lights provided a gold Eddy. It went for $4000. So I would say you got a very very very very good deal. I generally follow Ebay but I didn't see that one was it under Harbor Lights?

Yes, it was under Harbour Lights. You can see it searching for item #6274139792. It was listed simply as a Eddystone, I don't think the fellow knew exactly what he had. Kind of reminds me when I found my double-digit Coqille River a few years ago. The pieces were displayed in the store by their location, and naturally it was labelled "Bandon" so that people calling dealers looking for rare pieces were always asking (hopefully, plaintively) for Coquille River with no luck! I guess I was very, very fortunate...I wouldn't have paid $4000 for it!

The Eddystone Bid I originally wrote a page on this subject a couple of days ago, but didn’t save and lost it all. So am starting over again. Everyone pretty much has covered it, but I still have a few things to add. As all ready mentioned the Gold Eddystone has gone for as high as $4000 at the action that was held by the Houston Lightkeepers. There are a few collectors that are trying for all the Gold event pieces along with some collectors that want at least one. This in the past has driven the prices up, but as time goes on the few collectors are completing their collections and many have just lost interest. This in turn has lowered the demand on the Gold. Even though there are only 10 of the Eddystone in existence. There just aren’t the collectors out there willing to pay the big bucks for one. Am I trying to say that the Eddystone is worth $565? No!!!!! Way!!!! All I am saying I doubt that you will see them going for the premium they were going for in the past. My opinion of the Eddystone in today’s going market is around $2000. If properly marketed maybe $2500 like BobM said. But why did it go for so cheap? The seller of the Gold Eddy Stone had no idea what he had. He is selling off his mother’s collection that he inherited. He did not list it as the gold version, just as Eddy stone. The only way the bidders on ebay knew what it was was by the little icon showing its picture. I think many bidders missed this one. Especially by are older collectors with bad eyes. I know I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. Here is the (revised)Gold count that we did a year and a half ago: 2000 Eddystone 10 2001 St George Florida 35 2002 Fort Tompkins spring regional 5 Fort Tompkins summer regional 5 Fort Tompkins fall regional 5 Fort Tompkins winter regional 5 Mark Twain store event –tower 100 to 130 2003 South East Block on the move regional 22 St Clair store event 100 to 130 St Clair with gem? Golden Gate Bridge 250 2004 St Augustine regional 5 Lightship relief regional 5 Three Sisters store event 100 to 130 and three with gems? Baileys Harbor Gold 1 (1) St. Clair with Gems given out oat the Nell event (2) Gold Alpena Lighthouse 2005 (50) 14 Foot Bank Little Light size lighthouses. (1) Gold Middle Island Lighthouse (1) Gold Waugoshance (1) Gold Brant Point (1) Gold Prices Creek (1) Gold Avery Point 2006 6 Full Size Gold-Plated Pewter Admiralty Heads 17 Gold Miniature El Morro PR (based on the Little Light): 1 at each of the In-Store events.

Dave, if you decide to get rid of your "unique" gold, it is only fair that you have some type of random drawing. No favoritism. We ALL want it! Maybe only forums members who were present at the reunion. Even better, limit it to forums members present at the reunion and on the Chicago bus tour!! That ought to give me a really fair chance.
