I just noticed that the thread "Where are you from?" had gone over 50 posts. Therefore, I closed it and started "Where are you from? (Part 2)". If you are new to the forum please let us know where you are from. Harbour Light Collectors are everywhere and love to hear from other collectors from their area. You might even find a Harbour Lights Collector's Club nearby. So...where are you from? Bob (North Attleboro, Massachusetts)

Bob, I have enough problem figuring out where I am, let alone where I'm from.

Mariner - Good point. I think I know where I'm from, not sure where I am. PS Really enjoying "Hatteras on the move". Wish I was THERE!

I may physically be in St. Louis, but I wish I was at Cape Hatteras. Leaving for Chicago and Grosse Pointe tomorrow.

Welcome Bottomfeeder,
Was in your 'neck of the woods' last November. I had no appreciation for the HL Navesink until I saw it for real. I was totally unaware of the area where the light is located. It was a lovely experience and I will be back in October to rephotograph it. Derith

Just wanted to say thanks =) for all of the friendly responses. I look forward to some interesting chats on this forum. Have a nice day. Natalie
Gravedigger--Gatlinburg is a great place to vacation, but it is beginning to get too commercialized.I stayed there this March and there was alot of construction.
Bob--I agree with you-the information on this forum is priceless and the people here are great!
Derith--wow, someone else visiting the Volunteer State. I am amazed that so many have been to TN recently. I need to get out and travel more =) What part of FL are you from?

Hello Everyone,
I too am from middle Tennessee. Clarksville. Have you heard of it? About 45 miles northwest of Nashville,on the TN / KY border, near Ft Campbell, Ky. No known lighthouses in this area,HAHA but that gives me plenty of reason to visit other places that do have them. Looking forward to talking / typing to each of you in the forum and visiting some of the places you are. Pam

I live in St. Louis (Maryland Heights) and work in St. Peters, MO. Previously, I resided in Los Angeles, Chicago, and then Galveston. (All towns with lighthouses!) My Harbour Lights collection began in November 1997 when the staff of the National Collegiate Team Match Games tourament presented me with the Split Rock OE in recognition of my 20 years as tournament director. I've been able to see lighthouses on all of my trips this year: Syracuse in March (Fairport Harbor, Ashtabula, Dunkirk, Buffalo, Fort Niagara, Charlotte-Genessee, Saugerties, and Hudson-Athens, the park road to Thirty Mile Point was closed unfortunately), Albany in June (Esopus Meadows, Kingston, and Hudson-Athens again - this time from the Hudson side). I have two trips to Wisconsin in August, both of which will give me the chance to see some more Lake Michigan lights.

Hi Pam,
Welcome to the wackiest place on the web. I also plan my travels around visiting lighthouses. Living in the center of the country allows us to be impartial about where the best lighthouse are located.
Hi Frank,
Welcome to a another lighthouse fanatic from St. Louis. If you have time check out the Light in Hannibal. Not much to look at but the closest lighthouse in the area.
Welcome to both Pam and Frank.

Thanks for the welcomes. Mike: It may be along story on how I got started but here goes. I have been a collector since way back. In 1993 I wanted to get my son involved in collecting. As at the time he was 18 and very hard to buy for, I thought, start a collection and make it eaiser. As I shopped I would be drawn to the lighthouse case, but thought it was a more masculine line. I tried to take my son to the shop that carried HL and get him interested. I said "Look at these don't you think that these are neat?" He showed no interest but under the Christmas tree that year I received Biloxi MS from HL. He thought I was giving him hints on what I wanted. Funny huh? Maybe subconsciously I was. Anyway to not disappoint him I became the collector. After researching and falling into the romance of the lights I am hooked. Until just late last year I had never even visited one. But that is not the case now. I have seen Chicago Harbor, Bodie, Hatteras, Ocracoke, Currituck, Cape Lookout and recently went to the Grosse Point gathering and visited there. I have a trip planned for Late Oct to NJ and will hope to see all of the lights I can fit into 2-1/2 days. Wish me luck.
Frank: All I can say is "You Luck Dog"
Sunshine: I agree, it is great to be impartial, We can love them all the same. Pam

The number of people registering to post at this site keeps going up. If you're new to the forum, please let us know where you're from. Things have been a little quiet in this thread over the past couple of weeks. Take a moment to type out a few lines and let us know a little about you. You may have several HL collectors in your area who could be of assistance in helping you find those "hard-to-find" HLs you need. Bob

Lake Worth is a real nice area. Haven't been there in a while. I guess that means a trip to go see Jupiter, Hillsboro, and Cape Florida.

Hi all! Just stumbled in while looking for info on the HL Screensaver, and what a great place to stumble to!
I live in the Dallas, TX area, and even though I spent most of my life on the shores of Lake Michigan, it was the Jupiter, FL lighthouse that got me interested in lighthouses in general, and HL in particular. Well, after 3 years of collecting, I finally acquired the Jupiter lighthouse, and it really made my year.
Ok, as you can see, I like to talk as well as collect...probably dangerous obsessions to go together. Talk to you all later!

Jeff, Welcome to the wacky world of Harbour Lights. I'm glad you have the Jupiter Light. Didn't know too much about that light until the St. Louis Cardinals moved their Spring Training to Jupiter. It's a beautiful light.

I'm from Minneapolis, where a drive of just several hours yields access to Duluth and its several lights (North and South Outer Breakwater Lights), Split Rock Light near Two Harbors, MN, and the 9 lights of Door County, Wisconsin.
Split Rock is everything the various lighthouse books say it is, and is well worth the trip. To see it perched up on the cliff, viewed from below on the rocks, is to gaze upon the pyramids....(well, almost!)
Door County includes amongst its 9 lights Sturgeon Bay Canal Light and Cana Island Light. With Split Rock, that's 3 which are represented by HL pieces. It's interesting to compare the orginal with the sculpture.

The Nautical Research Guild is an international, but U.S.-based, group of nautical, maritime, and naval history buffs who are also primarily model ship builders. If you have the interest, you can access their very comprehensive Web site at: http://www.naut-res-guild.org. There you'll find a bewildering array of things to look into if you like build model ships or have an interest in the real thing. They also publish a quarterly, and very professionally done, Nautical Research Journal. If you're a member, I guess it's not too much of a stretch to have a cross-over interest in lighthouses, and consequently, Harbour Lights. I'm finding out that it just takes money. :-)

Thanks Bob for sharing that great site with us. I found it very interesting. I'm from Groton, CT and have been in the shipbuilding industry for 26 years now. Even though most of my experience is with submarines I have also taken an interest in older sailing vessels. We are near Mystic Seaport, which I'm sure you are familiar with, as well as the U. S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT (home of the barque Eagle). There is also the Nautilus museum at the submarine base in Groton, CT which has many models.
Welcome to this Harbour Lights site. I hope to hear from you again in the future and thanks again for the Nautical Research Guild website, which I have added to my list of favorite sites.

Hey Tony,
You're just up the Bay from me. What Chessy lights are you looking for? Are you near the water. I'm on a tributary, small one, of the James.

Hi Moby!
I'm basically finished with MD. I'm still waiting for my Thomas Point that I recently purchased. I probably overspent for it but it was my first track down and I got overly excited, if you know what I mean. I'm also still waiting for the Baltimore and Seven Foot from the Society, but those are in a holding pattern if I've been told correctly. Anyway, my next amibitious drive won't be for a couple of months, and I'm going to start on Assateague and Occacroke (sp). I'm working my way down. How about you Moby, what's your collection like?
Thanks, Tony

Hello everyone I am a newbie also. I am from Indpls. My first HL was Split Rock. I hope to see it soon in real life rather then only in my very crowded HL curio cabinet. I have been collecting four years now and a new curio cabinet that can hold many more HL is at the top of the "next BIG purchase list"!

Welcome to the forums Adrienne! We're glad you found us!
I think new curios, or bigger curios, or more curios, are always on the minds of us HL collectors. There is a lot of great information on how some of the collectors here display their collections, and on many many other topics.
Enjoy the site,
-Todd

It's your lucky day, Adrienne! If you are from Indy and looking for a curio, I think it is time for Brady & Co. to step in and expand their market base! You may want to read the thread below to understand the comment, if you have not already: http://216.46.163.97/forums/Forum1/HTML/000146.html Rod Watson

Welcome Adrienne.
You found the best spot for some good lighthouse talk. Lots of avid HL collectors here.

Thank you to Todd and Rod for making me feel so welcome to this site. Also for introducing me to the Titanic line of curios. Oh my gosh, I now know I am definately a newbie in more ways than one.

Hi all,
Although I have been registered for about a year and posting for a long time,I just never came into this one..lol I guess alot of the wacko's have noticed me but I'm still a newbie.I am from outside of philadelphia, about 15 miles north where there is one lighthouse! Its called Turtle Rock and is along boathouse row along the river in philly. After meeting Bill Younger again,I gave him the rundown..pictures and told him it would make a great free lighthouse in one of the years coming up with a membership.See Bill,I won't give up..lol.Anyway,hi all...love this site..the people are wonderful and the knowledge and info from everyone is fantastic! Bob,I was in Minnesota last year visiting friends and jumped at the chance to go to Deluth and visit the breakwater lights..Two Harbors and Split Rock which was incredible! What a beautiful place.

Hi Bob - I am originally from South Philadelphia. Now live in Perkasie, Bucks County - maybe 1 hr NW of Phila. Turtle Rock would be an awesome HL. I had forgotton it's name but remembered it at the end of Boathouse Row. There are a lot of photographers here in the forums if they haven't taken pictures of Boathouse Row at night they are missing something. Where do you buy your HL's? How did you meet Bill. Great to have another Pa guy here. Take care, QC
George
