Puddlepirate is one of a few slang names for a Member of the Coast Guard. I have been Serving for about 28.5 years, over 13 active. My first duty assignment brought me to the buoy tender in Duluth Mn (Mesquite and Sundew) and gave me the opportunity to work at the most remote lights in the Lake. It was something I will never forget and it is where I started my intrest in Lighthouses. Glad to be part of the group!

Welcome Puddlepirate! Know of these two CG cutters, the "Mesquite" and the "Sundew" as they were both stationed in Charlevoix in past years! The ships were a welcome sight of the area waters! Thank you from all in Northern Michigan!

I am not sure of the origions of the term "puddlepirate" and I know I am not the only one to use it. It is mostly used by Navy personnel as an insult to us so called "Shallow water sailors" but most of them know we go every where they do and then some. I actually like the name. Of course There are slang names for the Navy and the other branches of service too I am sure you have heard some of them.
