Seems like it'a about time we started a 'I'm gonna be there' post about the last Regional Event for 2002.
Who's planning to be there? And are there any plans for a lighthousing trip around this event?
Sat, November 16, 12-4pm, Royal Palm Beach FL Winter Regional Event-RSVP (800) 365-1219 Royal Palm Beach Cultural Center 151 Civic Center Way , Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411
My guess is this event will see the greatest number of collectors in attendance.
Don't forget if you have any of those drawing tickets left around and are NOT going to be in attendance, you can send them in to Harbour Lights for the drawing.
If you are going, HL asks you to phone in and let them know the count 800-365-1219.
OK, gang, who's going??

Hey Steph, if you are interested in staying with me for that event too - you are more than welcome to. I have been asked by the board to help represent the Florida Lighthouse Association. I've also been asked to represent the Cedar Keys Lighthouse. So needless to say - I will be going. I have to see if the Cedar Keys Wildlife Refuge is wanting to attend the event. I'll give you more information on it as I am notified. So I guess I should say - "SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!" :p

Lorna and I will not be attending. I would love to go but other commitments require our presence during that period of time. Bob

Warning to Florida lighthouse tourist.
The tours to Cape Canaveral Light house have been canceled since the 911 tragedies. As far as I know this is still in affect.
If you want to tour Cape Florida, the park is open all day. However, if you want to get right up to the lighthouse or climb it you must be one of the first ten people in the morning. For this special week I think that it would be great if Cape Florida would open all day to the Public. Can any of you Florida Lighthouse people see if that could be arranged?
Hillsboro is closed to the public. However, it does have a great view from a small park that is across from the river. This is another one that would be great if it was open for the regional event.
Jupiter is open to the public. (Check their schedule). If you are going to tour the lighthouse, they are very fussy about you wearing shoes. No sandals.
St Augustine and Ponce Lighthouse are a must to see.

Do you need approval from NASA or the Air Force to see the light at Cape Canaveral? Chuck

The light is on Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. They don't take kindly to NASA as I recall. Access to the light is very limited and takes a fair amount of prior coordination.

We'll be there. This will be the first regional that Claudia will be attending.
We'll be in the Fort Myers area 11/15, drive to Royal Palm the morning of 11/16, be back in the Fort Myers area on 11/17 and fly back from Tampa/St Pete on 11/18.
We've don't have specific lighthousing plans for before and after the regional. We've been to Sanibel and Boca Grande. Does anyone from down there (or anyone else) have any suggestions?

The McBee's will be there We will be flying into Orlando on Thursday night. My sister lives just north of the airport so we will be staying with her and driving down on Saturday morning. We want to do some lighthousing over the weekend but as of yet we don't have anything planned. We will be staying through Monday afternoon. Can't wait to see everyone.

Are you going to the Winter / Florida Regional and interested in taking a boat ride to view Hillsboro from the water side? If so, check out this message . Lighthousing with your Forum Family is a great way to go - lots of fun and lots of great people. Dave

YTG Dave! Can I bring my Dive Gear? You get the pictures and I'll get the lobsters for dinner! LOL just kidding! :p
Well, actually no I'm not, I think I will bring my dive gear, heck while I'm in the neighborhood I might stay a day or two extra to get in some dive time! Anyone wanta volunteer to be a dive buddy? Say sometime Sun or Mon. if the water isn't too cold?
But to answer your question Dave, count me in as a go!

Hi Ms TLC (Ruthie), Won't be able to make it to the Florida event. This Michigander will be out in Arizona to visit family and celebrate Thanksgiving. Maybe, while out there, we'll be able to look up you and Saint John. Dan

Well, it's settled - I will be there with my badge on! I will be at the Cedar Keys Table, joined by Shortcake and my friend Dianne. Please stop by and see us. If you are wanting to do some Lighthousing and need some tips, don't hesitate to email me with the length of time you will be visiting. I can give you some suggestions and you can take it from there. My girlfriend Dianne and I will be going to Jupiter and Ponce Inlet Sunday on our way home. You can never take a trip to a seacoast without stopping to see at least one lighthouse!

Ok Steph - you just brought up the subject that he and I have been arguing about for 2 days now. We've made the Palm Beach plans for 2 months now - we go on Saturday to the HL event and then on Sunday, on our way back home, we go to Jupiter LH & Ponce Inlet LH. Dianne, my friend from work, is coming with me and has been excited about going to those two lighthouses for over a month (two lighthouses she hasn't been to yet). Kenny then notified me that he could not get off work to go to the HL event or the LH's with me, so it was just Dianne and I. Now, two days ago he realized that Nascar would be in Homestead, so he decides that he can take off work after all to go see his driver, Tony Stewart (#20 for those that don't know), win the Championship. He calls me and tells me to change my plans and come to Homestead with him! CHANGE MY PLANS!!! So I told him no way, no how! He gets upset because he says he always changes his plans to go places with me. I told him that was bull - I remember going to MANY FLA meetings and LH's without him because he couldn't take off work, was in a different state, or just wanted to stay home and watch a football game! Kenny says, "Go to the HL event on Saturday, give Dianne directions to the Lighthouses and let her go to them by herself - you can then come to the Nascar Race with me on Sunday." My response was, "No, I made plans over a month ago, Dainne is really excited about going and is still new at Lighthousing. Plus, it really isn't that much fun going to a Lighthouse by yourself." I personally always enjoy myself at each and every lighthouse and no matter where I go I can always find someone to talk to, but Dianne is still new at this and she isn't as out-going as I am. So, as it stands, Dianne and I are going to Royal Palm Beach, Jupiter, and Ponce Inlet and Kenny is going to Homestead! But thanks for the idea! :p

Hi everyone. If someone attending the Winter Regional would get two of the event buttons for me, I would pay $5 ea to your favorite LH restoration group. I would also cover shipping. I would do the same deal for anyone who has two extra buttons from the Fall Regional.
Thanks.

Looks like about 200 or so collectors have let HL know that they are planning to attend this Regional. If you have not called yet, please do so in the next day or so - 800-365-1219. No charge. If you are interested in supporting the Collector Forums, you will be able to purchase one of the unique panoramic photographic prints of Grand Haven Lighthouse at the Regional. Paul Brady will have 20 numbered prints (#51-70) of the edition of 100. These will be available for $25 (no shipping costs). Look for the Hoosier Lighthousing Club table. If you'd like to learn more about this way of supporting the Collector Forums, visit this thread

My wife and I will be there with our four kids. My kids love the regional especially the bingo. Looking foreword in seeing everyone. Been to all the southern events so far. I don't think I can fit in a Hillsboro boat trip. Plan to head to Key west for a couple of days after ward. I highly recommend a trip to Key West to anyone else that has time to travel. Key West is only a 2.5-hour trip away from the event. You can see several of the skeleton lighthouses from there especially American Shoal. And remember the famous Key West Lighthouse is open to the public.

Hi Daniel. Just wanted you to know that Key West is about a 4 hour drive instead of 2.5 hours from the meeting, and that's speeding a little here and there!

Okay everyone, this is it! 27 more hours until the event! Those of you that are flying, may the wind back at your back and may you arrive safely. Those of you that are driving, may the traffic be thin and fast, may you also arrive safely. I will be leaving my house tomorrow morning about 5 a.m. I'll be there about 9:30 to set up. I'm looking forward to event event - this will be my first one. And I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of ya! See you later!!!
