Joseph F. LaVigne of Halifax, a lighthouse operator and veteran, died Monday at age 79. He was the 33rd Lighthouse Keeper of Boston Light, from 1948-50, the oldest lighthouse in the United States. He was a veteran of World War II. He served with the USCG in the European campaign on the USS Menges. He retired from the Coast Guard in Boston in 1962 after 20 years of service.

frown I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. LaVigne, former keeper of one of our most historic lighthouses. My sincere sympathy goes out to his family.

Respectfully,
Paul Conlin
