If my memory serves me correctly, our very own Derith Bennett (also known as Nana)will be celebrating a birthday this weekend (9/15). She is being treated to a visit to the east coast of Florida by her very understanding husband, Jerry. She will be making a couple of big climbs, at Saint Augustine and at Ponce Inlet. Happy birthday Derith!

Tried to climb Auggie today, but the wind was whipping up a fuss and they had closed the tower....they open at 9am tomorrow, we'll try again.....wanted you all to know that the fly over of Cumberland is off if I am going to use a plane from the St. Mary's airport in GA...it may have to close down as it is only 1 mile from the Kings Bay Submarine Base where they have nuclear weapons.

Good News!
My husband and I climbed both Auggie and Ponce today. Both climbs were realatively easy for me and I didn't feel like I was falling. Found out that St. Augustine was built to accomodate visitors, thus the wide stair base and railings on wall and in the center. Ponce is much more narrow a climb and only has handrail in the middle. One of the employees at Auggie said he was up top yesterday when the wind was whipping up and that the glass in the lantern room was doing some bowing.
My husband is very understanding about my lighthousing and enjoys the history, museums, and engineering part....and as he just told me, when I have seen all I want to see and taken pictures from every possible angle, leaving! Hope the photos I took at Auggie with the flag flying half staff and unfurled, with Auggie in the background, will come out well.
My 59th birthday was a great celebration! Called and left two messages for "Mo". Both from lantern rooms....
