Well Folks,
We are now ready to proceed with ordering Glass Cases for our beautiful White and/or Red Mackinaw’s. The cases will be an almost exact reproduction of the glass cases you are familiar with – the sides, fronts, and tops are glass, and the back is a mirror. (There will NOT be a place to mount a brass plate on the wood. Some of you have ordered brass plates for other pieces from Rich at flacoastie@worldnet.att.net and attached it to the front. It looks good. Please contact Rich for specifics.)
The underside of the wood will be covered with green felt to keep the case from scratching your curios or damaging your furniture. Of course, this is assuming that cats, dogs, and small children are not allowed to play with the ships, the glass cases -- or romp around in your curios.
The prices are as follows for three popular wood types:
OAK Base – ¾ inch thick -- $49.00 each Black Walnut Base – ¾ inch thick -- $56.67 each Cherry Base – ¾ inch thick -- $67.03 each
Additional wood types can be made available, but they will be more expensive. (I intend to order OAK. It’s a tad cheaper and all my furniture and curios are OAK.)
The above prices also include the cost of manufacturing the shipping containers, which are also hand-made by our craftsman.
The cost of shipping and insurance for two cases shipped in one container will be approximately $16.93. Assuming two OAK cases for two Mackinaws, the TOTAL COST will come to $114.93. (NOTE: Shipping costs may vary depending upon your location. But just order based upon the total dollars provided at the moment, and we can adjust later.)
If you have ordered only one Mackinaw, an OAK case will be shipped in one container at a total cost will be $62.95.
This will be a tremendous opportunity for those of you who treasure the Mackinaw’s. In order to keep the cost as low as possible, I have informed the craftsman that I will take care of all the logistics. This will be similar to the procedure utilized by Dave Hannum when working on the Regional and Event get-togethers over the years.
If you are sincerely interested, please contact me at bahbaht@aol.com and kindly provide the following information:
Your Name Your Shipping Address Type of Wood Base Required Number of Glass Cases Any questions or concerns that you may have
In order to expedite the process, I will immediately place your order with the craftsman. I will follow-up with a cashiers check within 24 hours. The glass case(s) will be sent directly to you.
You in turn will receive email from me with a verification of your order. That email will also note my address and the total dollar amount owed. You can then send me your check. I don’t want to burden the craftsman with wondering when the check would arrive. (Our craftsman doesn’t know you – but I do.)
And please be rest assured, my total revenue from this venture amounts to a big fat ZERO.
bobo
PS. Hopefully, photos of the shipping containers and the glass cases (with the Mack's inside) will be posted by the end of the week.

Well Folks,
Another order has arrived -- this one is for Mahogany wood bases. The craftsman just notified me as follows:
THE MAHOGANY CASE BASES WILL COST 57.00 EACH PLUS SHIPPING WHICH DEPENDS ON THE DESTINATION.
This, of course, includes the cost of the hand-made shipping container. Insurance will be included in the cost of shipping.
Please be patient. I anticipate that pictures of the final product (with the Mack's) will be posted by early next week.

If these cases turn out as nice as previous ones did, everyone should be really pleased with them. They are a great bargain for the price being paid. I would like to thank Bob for sharing his craftsman with everyone, and for taking the lead to help his fellow collectors get a great product at a great price.
Attaboy, Bob.

Looks like I may have been the first to order the cases for the Macks, because the cases are due at my place Saturday w/ FedX delivery. So Bob has asked me to take photographs to give everyone a chance to see the Macks inside the cases.
Assuming they arrive when expected, I hope to post these for you this weekend.
I'm really curious to see the packaging they are shipped in, because if the craftsman goes to that extent, imagine how nice the cases will be. I'll post a pic of the packaging crate too.
Glad to help you out, Bob!

Thanks for the info on the mahogany, Bob. Wasn't there a link somewhere where we could see the different woods? The cherry or the black walnut might be really nice, too. I'm definitely ordering two, Bob, just need to decide with which wood I will go. Thanks, again!

Some of you have asked about another type of wood base for your Mack cases. Therefore in addition to the three woods originally listed,
OAK Base – $49.00 each Black Walnut Base - $56.67 each Cherry Base – $67.03 each
we now have:
Mahogany -- which will run $57.00
That's less expensive than I thought.
Also, total price will include the exact price of shipping WHICH WILL DEPEND UPON THE DESTINATION.
What could be more fair than than that?

The two glass cases arrived in Richmond, Virginia yesterday, and true to Bob's description, the case itself is big enough to be used as furniture. That is HL415 Hilton Head ( not the spyglass!) propped beside the crate to give you a true feeling of the size. A Phillips screw driver was required to remove one side of the customized wooded packing crate which revealed, at last, my cases, carefully packed in foam and tied with cord to prevent any movement.

After cleaning the sawdust from the glass, I couldn't wait to assemble them. Here we go with the Mack ( red hull) to show the fit. You will notice that my cases are all glass (no mirrored back)because I plan to display them on a tabletop and wanted no blocked sides. These are the oak bases, my preference. The next two photos show how the footprint fits on the base... And now, the white hull Mack inside the glass case... And finally, here they are side by side...

The shipping case looks almost nice enough to use as a base for the display case. Nice job on the pictures Judy.

Thanks John and Jim, I'm thinking about adding shelves to the case and using it to display mini's, maybe the ornaments. It's a really STURDY piece of work! And, I was having fun with a brand new camera yesterday, so thanks for the compliments.

NOTICE TO ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN CASES FOR THE MACK'S. The craftsman is willing to make the display cases with a mirrored back OR with a glass back . The choice is yours.
I think Judy's choice of a glass back is fantastic. Thanks for your great idea, Judy.

Well Folks,
Just bringing this topic to the top. Eight of you collectors have ordered the glass cases and have received them. Two cases arrived damaged and the craftsman is now in the process of replacing them.
I'll add a post later as to the types of wood available and approximate costs -- total costs are are dependent upon zip codes.
More information later.

Mine arrived yesterday and are super. I'm trying to rearrange things now so that I can display them as they should be. I got the mirror back because I wanted the reflection. However, I went to my consultant on all things related to my collection, Mr. Rich, and I asked for his viewpoint: all glass vs. mirror. Rich told me he likes the mirror back because, if you have the cases on a shelf, everything behind the case will be visible. So, this way, I see only the reflection of the ship and not what is behind it. Verry cool!

Bob - These cases sure look beautiful! Could someone please give me the dimensions? I have recently acquired a model of the USS Constitution and I would like to know if it would fit in one of these nice cases. My best, Paul Conlin

Paul,
Our craftsman needs to do it the other way around. First of all, would you measure your USS Constitution? After you send the measurements -- greatest height, widest width, and longest length -- be as exact as you can, I will send them to our craftsman.
We then get together electronically and determine the size of the wood base. After that he constructs the glass top and then the shipping crate.
Keep in touch.
