I wish Harbour Lights would keep making more of the "Spyglass Series." If they made a SG Light for every LE Light, it would afford the opportunity for those with smaller budgets and smaller display areas to own a little replica of every light made by HL. Let's hear it for the smaller ones!

I think its a great idea Bob. Personally I'd like to see the Spyglass series scaled up to the size of the Rose Island and NPL Minis.

I agree, and I expressed that to BY at a signing in September. Didn't really get a response. Subject was quickly changed to the availability of Spyglass Southern Belles on LI.

I agree with making a whole set of the SG or the whole collection in ornaments and stop making the GLOW & Signature Series. Ornaments and SG series would not have any effect on the secondry market. The lower price point would make it easier for the gift stores at the lighthouses to handle the product. Sales would increase, benefiting everyone.

Has anyone heard anything on a new Spyglass Series for 1999?

I agree with Jakescol on broadening the spyglass line as the OE for all HL issues and to discontinue the present GLOWs. The size differentiation more clearly sets them apart from the LEs and the smaller size makes it easier for dealers to display a larger number on their shelves. I, too, think the lower price point is attractive for collectors who cannot afford certain retired LEs and for tourists as well.
As suggested by Tim, the mini size used for NPL and Rose Island allows for more detail. Size and cost would be bigger, but again, clearly lower and different from the LEs.
Either way, I'm open-minded, but think these choices are better for the overall HL line than the GLOWs.

How can a new collector realistically hope to have, say a Portland Head, in their collection if the GLOWS were not available? Should we be penalized because we're new? A bit smaller is ok but not too tiny. If they want to make more tiny ones, that's fine, just not for me.

I too would like to see more SG series. I just recently solved a problem I had with displaying them. Always thought because of their size they looked a bit lost among the LEs. While searching for new bar stools for my home I came across a very small curio cabinet at a local furniture store. It only measures18'' x 21'', but it has 3 shelves that's enclosed by glass doors and 6 outer shelves..3 on either side of the doors. It can either hang on the wall or sit on another piece of furniture. In my case I have it on a roll top desk. It's just the right size to display the SG series. I also have Keeper & Friends displayed with them. I have since seen several different ones. Some larger than the one I have. Just think, this will give us wackos another option...we can use our walls to display our HLs, not just all the flat surfaces in our homes. Debbie
