Both Texas Highways and Smithsonian Magazine have articles dealing with lighthouses in their January issues.
The Texas Highways article,
"See the Light" by Patricia Caperton Parent (photos by Laurence Parent) covers the Port Isabel, Aransas Pass, Halfmoon Reef, Matagorda Island, Galveston Jetty, Bolivar Point, Sabine Bank (aka 18-Mile Light), and Sabine Pass lighthouses. Included are excellent directions to each lighthouse, phone numbers, and hours.
The Smithsonian article,
"Moving Big Stuff" by Wendy Mitman Clarke is about moving large objects. While the article is about moving "superloads" of various types, the text focuses mostly on the move of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse (which opens the article) and the move of a 200-ton autoclave.
