Spring Cleaning at Old Michigan CityPart I!! - 05/03/03 06:30 AM

It's that time of year again and since it is after midnight, early this morning the Hoosier Lighthousing Club will be gathering at the lighthouse (after breakfast at Lindos of course) for Spring Cleaning!

Breakfast was at 7:00 AM and it started us off well!

Jake and Jeff start unloading Doyne's truck of supplies, including the new brass railing for the stairway..

One last look at what has passed for the stairs to the lantern room...

Harold and John start on what will be a new flower bed along the North fence...

Yo he ho.. Yo Ho.. The pole for the new sprial stairway-- all 17ft... The big question: how to get it up where it needs to go?

It will take a lot of lifting and pulling and luck!!!

Some how it worked... It's in the building!!!

First came weeding the flowers that we planted last year and adding new mulch..

Karen, Sue and Kat give the fence posts a new coat of paint... the chain-link part is covered with a plastic coating so it doesn't need painting!

Harold prepares the ground for planting..

Dave, Larry and Jake remove the brick from the "cut-off" chimney to make way for the new stairs..

Dave removes the bricks airmail...

The troops picking up the airlmailed bricks with one eye on the window-- and one on Dave resuming his tossing..

Dave removes the last bricks down to the new floor level..

Harold admires last year's fall planting of tulips. After today's weeding and new ground-cover, it is obviously very beautiful!!
