Limited Edition Numbering

Has anyone thought about whats going to happen to the LE numbering once they get up to 400. Since the 400's are the GLOW's, what's going to happen once the LE's get to that number?

Where at #349 at the moment. My "guestimate" is that they'll reach 4000 in 2011.

Hopefully their still making them in 4 years, so I don't want to think about that possibility. My thoughts are they'll jump the numbering to 701 at that time. Anyone else care to guess?

That is a very good question.
Surprisingly it has only come up twice on the forums.
Once by Bob M over two years ago and he actually didn’t get one response from this comments.
And the second time by Stephanie just last year.
You think this subject would have come up many a time, but it hasn’t.
We talked about the solution may be just tacking a zero to the end of the numbers.

The big question is what will the new owner do?

I have no inside info on this, but I'd propose adding a "1" in front of the series so the next one after 399 would be 1101 and up to 1399. Give them perhaps another 16 years of product numbers.

We still have the 800 to 999 available.
The 900's that were done for LHD had the prefix of HB not HL.

Also as Paul stated last year we also have the number 001 to 100

Rule out this one. I forgot the 700 numbers are the Christmas editions.

So far I like Johns suggestion the best. Adding a 1 and restart at 1101. I guess it could also be a letter instead of the 1. ( Example: A101 )
Another possability might be just to start using a LE in front of the number when they get to 400. ( Example: LE400 )

Adding a letter prefix would prove confusing because GLOWs use letter prefixes on the edition numbers to indicate how far into a run they are. Remember, letters are incremented each year, with the first year of production for a GLOW starting with "A" Don't think you would then want to use a letter prefix on a LE product number.

What to do? I gave it a little thought and maybe they should utilize the sequential numbers they have left for the limited edition series then switch to a new sytem. How about HL 0001 through HL 0099, then you can use HL 0100 through HL 0199, and so on until our great grandchildren get tired of it all.

This may be a good time to make other adjustments to make the newer numbering system stand out. How about like a slightly redesigned flag. Another adjustment in honor of the new numbering system could be a different colored felt on the base of the product. You could even change the traditional blue box, with Portland Head on it, to reflect the change to the new numbering system. How about a small note on the box stating: Note - Keep this box. It makes the contents more valuable in the future!

There are lots of things that can be done. Such futuristic changes are only limted by one's imagination. What do you think?

Some great ideas out there. It will be interesting to see what direction they take in numbering. My simple thought was already mentioned here: start over at 1100 and go from there.

By my records I see the ranges in use as follows:
100-399: Limited Editions
400-499: GLows
500-599: Collector's Society
600-699: Special Issues (signs, lights, thumbs,Reunions,etc)
700-799: Christmas and ornaments

How does that compare to other's people info?

There are a lot of good suggestions so far by our fellow CF members. I'm sure Harbour Lights reads what is printed here and may utilize one, or more than one of our suggestions.
