Choosing favorites, my vote goes to New London Harbor, CT

Mostly because this is one I've had a chance to visit several times, photograph and explore.

To me, it's Annisquam. This is one of my favourite New England lights, and I have great memories of finally making it there at the end of our 2-day "Cape2Cape" MA marathon. With a beautiful sunset and a stately tower, it was a beautiful way to end the day.

First off, all the new release look excellent. Another group of highly detailed models.

The lighthouses selected could have been better. Choosing two from the Lake Onterio section of NY and two from almost that same area of MA is a bit odd. I think the two for NY might even be next to each other. confused

I currently don't plan on preordering any of them. Definately will wait till 2008 to become a auto-ship collector.

At this moment, my favorite would be New London Harbor, CT.

Actually Charlotte-Genesee is between the two lights on Lake Ontario, this I believe just about completes the lights on Ontario as HL's.. Maybe Mombo or JJ can fill us in on those that might not be HL's yet, since she and JJ live just down the road from these..

All we still need on Ontario is Ogdensburg, Rock Island, Cape Vincent, Tibbets Point, Horse Island, Stony Point, Galloo Island, and Oswego.

That said, except for maybe Tibbets and Oswego, these are all private residences, somewhat obscure, or offshore. So for most intents and purposes, one can now pretty much collect an entire Lake Ontario series of HLs.

Braddock Point and Sodus Point....

I'm ecstatic!

[Bet you thought you'd never hear that from me]

Disappointed that with all the action on Long Island in the past few years( Regional, 3 LIChallenges(Bill attending twice), and Dave's trip) that we got nada again. Two years since we got Cedar Island) Some very deserving, unique lighthouses need to be made. Maybe next year?????????

The new releases looks great, however I will definitely pass on the Christmas piece. Don't like the plastic plane hanging from the metal hook on the top. And at $125! Definitely too expensive. Been waiting for New London Light for a long time but well worth the wait.

I'm in agreement with you Bob. I collect all the Long Island lights. Don't forget Sands Point & Orient Point.

I was hoping for a NJ light since it's been 4 years since the last NJ HL LE. Thought for sure Tinicum or Miah Maull Shoal would get included this year.

I agree on the Tinicum and Miah Maull. If we do every see Tinicum (since a LLOM already exists), expect to either shell out a lot of money, cause of the intricate and expensive metalwork involved on the skelton tower, or a smaller piece. Either way, it would be a nice addition to the LE collection.

Re: What's New for Harbour Lights - June 2007 Releases - 06/11/07 07:51 PM

Well hallefrickinllujah.

The original Bass Harbor lighthouse, released 9 years ago, was awful. Looking at it you'd barely know it was situated along the coast of Maine. The classic photos of Bass Harbor are taken from the water, and the limited edition gave virtually no hint of that "look." Sure, the structures are accurate (they're so run-of-the-mill it's hard to get 'em wrong), but the lighthouse's mystique has little to do with them. The setting---the scenery---is everything.

With the new lighted edition they've fixed that. You get a section of the jagged rock face plus a sliver of water below. It looks like the photos now. It is correct. I approve.

What are my favorites of the new offerings? Annisquam, Hospital Point (minus the plane), and New London Harbor in that order.

Naturally, I favor lights from my neck of the woods unless there's a really different looking light from another area.

FYI The plane is made from resin just like the lighthouse..

Wow, Sodus Point AND Braddock Point! They both look very nice and at $75 the HL of Braddock is a mite cheaper than the asking price of the real lighthouse - $1.9 million!!!

I like New London Harbor and Annisquam too, even though I found it on my first try... wink

Hospital Point would be quite fetching without the feet and that awful plane. Yes we have the Flying Santa and certainly appreciate his efforts and those who followed him but really...I assume the light in the tower flashes? (Just noticed that Paul's photos of the flashing GLOWs and the lens flash on the HL page, neat.)

I haven't bought an HL in ages but many of these new releases look mighty tempting. Wish there was still a dealer nearby so I could see them. frown

Edition sizes are certainly low now-a-days....remember when we were hankering for a return to 5,500???

I agree with you, Bill, about Bass Harbor. This has always been a favorite and I have visited it a number of times. I shall definately have to have the new version.

I really like the new version of Bass Harbor. All of the new releases are very well done. It will be hard for me to decide which one to order first.

Re: What's New for Harbour Lights - June 2007 Releases - 06/19/07 02:22 PM

The HL models seem to get better and better. I've been trying to stick to only collecting cetain area's of the country, but the detail on these are exceptional. Paul's extra pics make it even harder to keep away.

Once I get some more space, I pretty sure I'll be starting a Lake Ontario section, a MA section won't be too far behind.

This is a 180 from my initial thoughts when I first seen them.

Loon,

It's called catching the "HL BUG"! beanie

Most of us collectors who have been around for awhile have it (the HL bug) and usually need to seek treatment for it sooner or later.... usually when we run out of room and can't display anymore HLs.

Re: What's New for Harbour Lights - June 2007 Releases - 06/19/07 08:43 PM

Christopher,

I was hoping I would only get a mild case of the HL bug. Not the case after seeing how many HL's I've collected over the last year and a half.

I'm trying to remember what used to occupy my time before I started collecting them. It now seems like I've always collected them.

Re: What's New for Harbour Lights - June 2007 Releases - 06/20/07 07:21 PM

A 50% off sale here and there can lead to an exponential increase in you collection as well.

That's what happened to me during 1999-2001, my credit card was "smoking"..... thank GOD that it finally cooled off and is paid for now. I can't even tell you how many Dell computer boxes I have moved across the country during past moves with HLs. A quarter of the largest U-Haul truck available dedicated to HLs..... Whew...Good Times.....

It is soooooooo hard to stay away from buying these! And lighthouses aren't the only things I collect either. I am also an avid Aurora model kit collector too!
