On our recent trip we came across this rather interesting memorial light quite by accident. Do you know where its at?

Hey Dave --

You were ON the trip. Was it that bad that you can't remember where you were when you took it?

Could it have been on Belle Isle in the Detroit River?

Actually, John, I had hoped to draw some guesses. Just didn't word things correctly.

The light is the Champlain Memorial Light located in Crown Point, NY. This is at the southern end of Lake Champlain. A bridge connects NY to VT at this point.

As we were cruising during our trip my daughter was looking up cities in the AAA guidebook. Imagine our surprise when she popped up with "hey, there's a lighthouse here!" So, we HAD to stop and look. Nice area, actually located within a campground and day use area of NY Parks.

To quote the AAA guidebook: "The original lightstation was constructed in 1858. A new light and memorial was erected by VT and NY in 1912 to honor Samuel de Champlain, who discovered the lake in 1609."

Tried to see if the light is on the Coast Guard's Light List, but the list is temporarily disabled.
