Chicamacomico

Here are a few photos of Chicamacomico that we took two weeks ago.


This is the original station building, built in 1874 and is an 1874-Type building.


The 1911 Chicamacomico-Type station building. The Chicamacomico-Type stations were only built on the Outer Banks of NC. All were built in 1911. The only other Chicamacomico-Type station that still exists is the 1911 Kitty Hawk Station which I have a photo of on my site.


There is something about this photo that I really like, but I just can't put my finger on it.

Great photos. Thanks for posting. Tom had come comments on the third picture.
The closeness of the boathouse silhouette to the camera helps add depth to the overall picture. The silhouette also adds some interesting lines and helps frame the station building. The eave silhouette helps draw your eye back into the picture leading you to focus on the station building. Just out two cents worth!

On the third image my thoughts are. People, especially photographers, like to view & capture scenes without being detected. It's part of a personal attraction to the image and the desire to remain one with it. I think the uniqueness of the third image is the fact it is taken from the shadows looking into the lighted scenery, hence the 'mysterious' feeling. Lurking in the shadows??

I am glad that you guys liked the photos. Normally, the upstairs of the 1874 station is closed to the public, but we were allowed to tour it that day. There is a couple of interesting things to show you up there. I will post those photos when I get a chance.

Your pictures brought back some very pleasant memories. The very first donation I made to anything remotely related to lighthousing was to Chicamacomico LSS as a Christmas gift to my husband the first Christmas we were together as newly-weds (12/07/79). He still has (and wears) the T-shirt they sent to acknowledge the donation I made in his name. And that T-shirt has sparked numerous queries as to how to pronounce the name!! The Outer Banks of NC hold many good memories for us and we hope to travel to them in 2005. Your pictures make me want to leave now.
