Anyone have any info about a Florida Lighthouse Challenge in April 2009?

From what I have been told, it is being discussed. The person I spoke with believed it would be in September 2009 and would be Atlantic coast lights. They expect a report at the FLA meeting later this month. You might see if there is anything on the FLA web site.

I think a regional tied into with a Florida Lighthouse Challenge would be a fantastic idea.

I wonder if it will be all the FL east coast lights? That's alot of miles to travel in a weekend.

If it's possible, for the first year(2009), attach a two day DaveH trip to a regional event so all the lighthousing CF folks can complete it. (Just a suggestion) smile

The East coast was planned for the first challenge. I will be at the FLA meeting next week. I will get an update.

If this happens;

It would be Awesome if HL could set aside a set of 300(or less)LLOM Florida lights with a special Florida Lighthouse Challenge stamp on them.

Since I'm not a big LLOM fan, I would like to suggest a regular sized limited edition be tied in with a Challenge/Regional weekend. Maybe St. Johns or one of three lost lighthouses that were once on the Atlantic side. (Amelia Island North Range Rear, Charlotte Harbor or Dames Point)

But whatever it is would be cool !!! cool

I would love to have a St Johns lighthouse or a Amelia Island Range light for a Challenge/Regional weekend but the planning stage for an L.E. may take to long to get it done in time. If there was a Florida Challenge/Regional L.E. made it should be a Florida light. There are still several other Florida gone but not forgoten lights, like the first Ponce Lighthouse.

At least a set of LLOM with special stamp on them could be made if notheing else.

A special stamp LLOM set is probably quicker to get setup in time, but the CF exclusive Wisconsin Point project had a very quick production cycle. Still think they can do a regular sized LE in 14 months.

One problem with Dames Point is we not sure what it looked like. We know it was a screw pile and the number of legs, but we have not found a picture or drawing of it. I did hear a drawing was found but sold to a private owner in auction who does not want to share (at least that is what I was told).

Well we only have 9-months till the middle of April 2009. The full cycle of the WP from the day it was picked to the day it arrived to Dave was 7 1/2 months and that was probally a record breaker.

So with that in mind it is possible to make a special L.E.,but the wheels would have to be turning now and some commitments made this month.

If the challenge is in April 2009 I don't think either may be possible, but I was going on the assumption that the challenge will be in September of 2009.

Since Eric is going to the meeting, he'll post some info on when it will be. Also like to know what lighthouses are involved.

The only problem with September for the Chanllenge it is one of the most popular months for Hurricanes (August is the other). Of course Hurricane season is 6 months long, but normally nothing too bad at the beginning or end of season (June to November).

Since the temps are usually always warm in FL, why not have the challenge sometime between January and March?

Hi all, sorry for the delay, what a busy week. FLA is still planning a challenge, but don't have concret dates yet. Shooting for 2009 but could be 2010.

What's the next step FL is going to take towards making this happen?
