While many of us are in the grasp of the wintery weather, I thought it would be nice if many of you posted a lighthouse pic or two to brighten up the day.

Here's one from a couple of years ago:

Pomham Rocks, aka Ponham Rocks, East Providence RI

Hey Bob, What lighthouse is this?

I'll post one in a little while, need to see what I have.

Good idea, Bob. We can all use some sunshine today.

Here's one I took on a sunny Sunday afternoon, June '05 while roaming around Tidewater, Virginia with Shirin Pagels. Those familiar with Shirin's photography will probably notice her influence on my shot...

Here is a picture Stan took of the lighthouse at Tijuana - from the US side of the fence. Taken at the beginning of October'06. Our friend Kim (on the right) and I just got in the way wink

Re: How about posting a pic or two... - 02/15/07 06:26 PM

Thanks Loon! We had a great time.
Luke is the first grandson that we got started into lighthousing. He was 1 1/2 when we took him to Seul Choix Lighthouse in the U.P. and he's been going ever since!

By the way, I wondered about the alcove on the keeper's house. I thought it was neat and unusual-so I did some research. It is the remains of the original tower. They incorporated it into additional living space when they replaced it with the skeletal tower!

Debbie, the one with the sailboats was taken June 8, 2003, the weekend of the Grand Rapids HL regional event. The sunset one was taken July 5, 2003 while we were waiting for sunset and the fireworks at South Haven.

Think warm thoughts. Think beach...

This bridal couple gratiously posed for me at twilight in front of Roanoke Marshes Light, Manteo NC, August, 06.

And unbelieveable weather...this was taken Thanksgiving day,'05 at Caffey's Inlet, Duck, NC (site of a former LSS by that name that now sets as a restaurant at the Sanderling Resort). It was sundown, and my children were "getting ready" to pose for me. (sorry, no lighthouse in the pic, but Currituck wasn't far away)

I took some pictures today of Barnegat Bay & the Toms River. These pics show areas where the ice has melted. To me that's a sign spring ain't too far away.

The Toms River, thats the town of Ocean Gate across the river. Ice is started to melt.

Barnegat Bay. The Mathis & Tunney bridges going from the town of Toms River over to Pelican Island. The ice has melted near the bridge.

Re: How about posting a pic or two... - 03/09/07 09:57 PM

... one more post, then its someone elses turn again wink

These two lighthouses are on the island of Poel in the Baltic Sea. The island was a "resticted area" when it was still part of East Germany and you could only get on the island with special permition. The reason? It is within swimming distance of West German coastlines and therefore an easy and favoured take-off point for escape attempts. Thank God that madness is over!

I found this old snapshot I took of Southeast Light while I was fishing off the south side of Block Island back in the early 80's. It's not the best picture in the world but it gives you a better idea on how the light was getting close to the edge of the bluff back then.

Thought I would share a couple of photos of the ducks that come to feed under my bird feeder.
Every spring, a pair of ducks return to feed. This has been going on for 12 years. I'm not sure how long ducks live...so I don't really know if these are the originals.

The drake usually stands guard, while the hen feeds. He is extremely attentive to her.

The drake preening his feathers.

They have come up to within a foot from me...but will not accept food from my hand.
