Your wishes for 2003

Your wishes for 2003 - 09/09/02 04:28 AM

I know that the wish list threads have been done before, but now that all of the 2002's have been introduced, some people need to update theirs, as their wishes have come true. And it's not too soon to begin thinking about the 2003's and beyond.

So, use this thread to post any four items that you would like to see Younger & Associates make next year (or in future years): LE's, GLOWS, LLOM, Anchor Bay or Guardian's of the Night.

1. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Mispillion, DE, in any size and in any condition (except it's current one of course)
2. Cove Point, MD with the keeper's house and the fog bell building.
3. Indian River Life Saving Station, DE
4. Another Fresnel Lens , any size, any style, I can't get enough of these things

Re: Your wishes for 2003 - 09/09/02 11:55 AM

Well the first one I would like to see is North Light, Block Island, Rhode Island.

The second is Race Point Light, Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The third would be Cedar Point, Long Island, New York.

The fourth would be Watch Hill Light, Rhode Island.

These I consider to be "area" lights for us here in southeastern New England. They would all make excellent HL's and would fill in the gaps in this area.

Harbour Lights has been very Long Island friendly recently so I can always hope the trend continues because we have lots more left.

Cedar Island http://scroope.net/longislandlighthouses/cedarisland.htm and
Plum Island http://scroope.net/longislandlighthouses/plumisland.htm are two big local restoration projects that Bill got to see in June on a Lighthouse Cruise with 375 lighthouse enthusiasts.
Shinnecock http://scroope.net/longislandlighthouses/shinnecockbay.htm would make a great edition to "Gone But Not Forgotten". This tall tower has become the logo for the Long Island Chapter of the USLHS.
Eaton's Neck http://scroope.net/longislandlighthouses/eatonsneck.htm was first lit in 1799.
Orient Point http://scroope.net/longislandlighthouses/orientpoint.htm became a "LLOM" this year so we're hopin' for the LE soon.

Re: Your wishes for 2003 - 09/15/02 03:44 PM

I noticed Bert (mtnhkr) mentioned East Chop Light from Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. I've often thought of East Chop and West Chop being released together.

Somewhere along the line someone had mentioned "interlocking" pieces as a entirely different type of HL. East Chop and West Chop would afford Harbour Lights that opportunity. They occupy opposite sides of the entrance into Vineyard Haven. This HL could be a three-piece set with East Chop Light on one side, West Chop Light on the other side, and the middle section could be the water with red nun and green can navigational aids and a boat (ferry, fishing boat, pleasure boat) passing through. This would really make for a very unique display.

smile Bob smile

P.S.: This type of unique HL could be made of any harbor that has a light on each side of its entrance. East Chop and West Chop just came to mind because I'm from Massachusetts.

Here's my top four:

Two from the East and two from the West:

Owl's Head - Maine

Sand Island - Alabama

East Brother - California

Point Reyes - California

It will be interesting to see who gets the most of "their wishes" for 2003!!!

Re: Your wishes for 2003 - 09/15/02 08:29 PM

And I think BobM is proud of the fact he comes from Massachusetts. NICE IDEA,BOB! Trying to decide what I'd like to see Harbour LIghts make was extremely difficult because there are so many beautiful lights out there that still need to be made. I believe that we all have some that really come to mind that we would love to see done as is represented on this forum. I for one have BULLOCK POINT and I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am that HL made that one. Never thought I'd see the day, but it happened. So don't give up people. Keep telling HL what you want and you know what, someday you just might get your wish. Lot's of fun anyway!

Bob, I think your East and West Chop (preferable, as I'm from Massachusetts also) ), or whatever combo that HL could come up with that would accomplish the same would be an excellent idea. I knew that you could come up and get two choices here for the price of one and you did it. WELL DONE!

Re: Your wishes for 2003 - 09/30/02 05:59 PM

I like the idea of Point Reyes. It would be interesting to have the steps and the original foundation for the original tower too. Then one can get an idea of just how far down it was moved to become effective. Believe me its a long way back up those stairs, but well worth the effort.

I think it would be nice to see Chatham Lighthouse in Cape Cod in Memory of Bill O'Brien he would like that. And also have one sent to the family honoring his name. Kay

Kay, HL already made Chatham but not correctly. The roof line is reversed front to back.

Owl's Head, Maine and North BLock Island, Rhode Island are getting a lot of nods here. Let's hope that Harbor Lights is listening!

Read my Legacy today. Yes, it did make it here to the East Coast. Kim mentions that the next issue will be mailed in December and we should be able to see the January releases first. Now let's hope that one or both of the above will be included in that announcement.

1. I agree with those who say the Old St. John's River (Mayport) Light . I work in the building next to it and have seen the light for the last 7 years. If it is to be done as a recent time-frame sculture, a great suggestion for it is to have the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) pierside in the basin and some of the SH-60B Seahawk helicopters flying around the local aircraft traffic pattern or on the runway. cool
2. Some of the lighthouses from the Adriatic Sea on the Italian coastline.
3. Some of the lighthouses on the island of Palma de Mallorica, Spain.
4. Any of the East Coast of Florida lighthouses.

5. Sand Island, AL (It is past time for a Gulf Light)

Re: Your wishes for 2003 - 11/10/02 04:15 AM

There are two local lights I'd love to see HL do:

1. Cedar Island. You knew that was coming.

2. Gone But Not Forgotten: Gardiner's Point. This was the first Long Island lighthouse to house a Fresnel lens (sixth order, 270-degree, fixed white), and it shined from 1855 to 1894, when erosion claimed it. Although no photographs exist, lighthouse illustrator (and retired architect) Paul Bradley recently created an image of what the lighthouse looked like, based on original plans and descriptions. The illustration will debut on the cover of the next issue of the Long Island Light Keeper (and will be available as a print). It was an unusual little light situated in an area rich in history. I'd love to see it reconstructed by HL.

I'd also like to see the Race Rock lens (fourth order, half classical/half bivalve).

As for lights in other areas of the country, I'll trust you folks for that. smile
