Hi, I have been "lurking" on the forums for a long time and finally decided that it is time to join in. I live in Central Texas and have seen all but one of the standing Texas lighthouses, but my passion is Maine lighthouses. I collect Harbour Lights. I have 46 pieces with more on order. I try to stay with lighthouses that I have seen but I have been known to stray from this! I also have a collection of vintage lighthouse postcards. They are Maine, New Hampshire and Texas lights. I only need three more postcards to complete the Maine collection and then I'm sure I will branch out to other states.

I have enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to joining in!

I also collect lighthouse postcards. I have quite a few of them. What I like best is comparing the ones from the early 1900's to a modern one of the same light and see how much of a change there is to the surrounding area and buildings. Keep in touch and don't be a stranger! There is alot you can learn here in the forums!

Terry - I'm glad that you have decided to join us all here on the collector forums. I had the opportunity to visit San Antonio on a business trip several years ago and thought that it was a charming city with the River Walk and all the shops. I also had a chance to visit the Alamo - very interesting.

Besides Harbour Lights I also have a small collection of antique post cards and am wondering why you chose NH & ME (as well as TX)for your collection. Are you originally from New England?

I am a Texas native who happens to love New England. I work for an airline so my travel is free and I take full advantage of it. Five years ago a friend offered us a small house in Maine for a week and I fell in love. We have been spending at least a week in August up there since. My down fall was a Lighthouse Depot catalogue that was laying on the table. From there we picked up a map and directions to area lighthouses and drove to Cape Neddick. The rest as they say is history. The Harbour Lights collection expanded dramatically after that trip. I started collecting postcards about a year ago. I tried to stay with just the three states but yesterday at a postcard show I branched out to Mass cards (Uh OH!). This can only mean trouble. Luckily I have a very understanding husband! I'll be in Portland Feb 10th for a postcard show where I am sure I will expand the collection even more.

Welcome, Terry. I lived in Houston for 14 years and used to love going over to SA whenever I could. Miss that Texmex cuisine and sure don't get much of it here in Michigan, but, on the plus side, there are a lot of lighthouses to photograph so I can't complain too much.

Hope you'll keep posting on the forums. There's a lot of great people on her.

Hi Terry from another Terry in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, about 60 miles north of Boston. Have you seen the small lighthouse in Acadia National Park yet? It's kind of right on the edge from a lot of like stepping-stone rocks along the seashore edge of Acadia.

I now have 110 but am trying to reduce to areound 80. Glad you decided to join in. I may be in your state for vacation this summer. Looking at South Padre Island. Hi, Terry: So happy to see someone posting here who is "in love" with Maine lighthouses. They are some of the most accessible and prettiest to photograph in the U.S., most certainly on the East Coast. I have lived in New England for many, many years, and usually head to Maine when I want a view of a lighthouse and a sniff of salt air. Have led many tours to lighthouses and the Maine coast especially, over the years for a variety of clubs. Let me know if you ever have questions on New England in general -- I serve as a travel aide to give suggestions on great places to visit for a world-wide organization.

On your next trip, put Portland, ME, on your itinerary. In a very small radius, you can visit or see several lights on land, plus view some out to sea on a clear day. Portland Head Light (also good museum there), Spring Point Ledge(with good museum), and Portland Breakwater Light dubbed "Bug Light" are all over on the S. Portland side of the water. Drive down the coast a short way to Cape Elizabeth, and see this famous light (famous because there was a BIG controversy over the remodeling of its historic keeper's house by the private owner) Its twin light is just down the block in a subdivision, privately owned, with a lantern room that has been changed drastically ( a goos reason for getting lighthouses into non-profit hands and restoring them to historical integrity). The two together are called the Twin Lights from days of old.

GOOD seafood at the outdoor food stand down the hill in the parking lot from the working Cape Elizabeth light. And do try DiMillo's Floating Restaurant in Old Town Portland on the main shore. Makes me hungry for a Maine lobster--- I spend the winters down South and am yearning to go back North --- as soon as that white stuff stops falling up there.

I have been to San Antonio once and fell in love with it at Thanksgiving when the canal was all lit with Christmas lights. So pretty with the reflections in the water. My husband and I might go that route this spring as we head to CA and HI, with lighthouse photography high on our list of activities.

Keep the Flame in Texas.
