A Request to Lighthouse Visitors...

A Request to Lighthouse Visitors... - 09/18/02 01:58 AM

In going though several boxes of lighthouse pictures, magazines, calendars, etc. I've run across a few brochures about lighthouses. I picked up over time. Some are for a single lighthouse, others are a state's brochure that lists all the LH there. Sometimes they are professionally done, sometimes quite amateur. I'd like to expand my collection of these publications.

If in your travels, you run across those kinds of brochures, and would be willing to mail one to me, I'd appreciate it.

John Chidester
PO Box 4742
Scottsdale, AZ 85261-4742.

For each one sent to me, I'll make a contribution of $1 to SE Block Lighthouse.

Thanks for considering this.

Here are some of those I have so far:

[*]Questions most often asked about The Cape May Lighthouse
[*]Do you like lighthouses? (NELL)
[*]Tampa Bay Harbour Lights Collector's Club
[*]Texas Gulf Coast Lighthouses & Historic Ports
[*]Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum 1796
[*]Eagle Bluff Lighthouse 1868, Door County
[*]Eagle Bluff Lighthouse At a glance...
[*]Concord Point Lighthouse 1827

John,

I will check to see what extra ones I have and will send them out to you. Also, I will be up in Maine this weekend and will pick up any I see.

The list of brochures you had seemed rather short. Haven't you received more than that in the postcard exchanges?

Yep. I do have more - but in other boxes. Most of those that send something with a post card print out their own information or copy something from the Internet and include that.

And thanks you guys for keeping an eye out for me.

John...I must have dumped over 30 of these things in the recycle bin last week while packing. Sorry...

But, I do have a box of CCUSLHS brochures in my car packed and ready to go to the Chesapeake Chaper USLHS and Outer Banks lighthouse societies joint meeting in Virginia this weekend. I'll pull one out for you tomorrow. Plus, I'll be on the lookout for more while I'm on my trip.

Thanks friends for sending these along! Remarkably few duplicates received.

My apologies if I've goofed up on who sent what. My initial reaction was to put them in the same bin without regard for the source and eventually to scan them and make them available on the Internet. I need to get my full size scanner working again before I can do that.

By my count, that's 61 received so far. I'm still going to make a $1 each donation to SE Block Island Restoration before the end of the year.

If you have sent me brochures that I have not acknowledged here, please post a reply. If you saw my office, you'd know it's possible they may be in one of the piles. smile

Keep 'em coming. I'm still looking for West Coast lighthouse brochures as well as any others not listed above.

John

P.S. I've corrected credits on sources for some of the brochures above.

Re: A Request to Lighthouse Visitors... - 11/27/02 06:25 PM

From Bert Guerin
The Lighthouse Trail (Le Quebec Maritime) Beautiful Brochure which folds out into map.

43 Lighthouses are shown on the map and they are color-coded and listed according to whether or not the lighthouse is a 'site with activities' (access).

You might be able to request this brochure from www.quebecmaritime.qc.ca or by calling 1-877-BONJOUR

I loved this quote from Vincent Guigueno, Au service des phares

Quote:
Originally built to warn seafarers of the presence of land, lighthouses now have another role: to make land dwellers aware of the sea.

Hi John,

Also sending one on Oregon Coast Lighthouses from the State Parks and Recreation Department

And one from Lighthouse Park, Point Atkinson, Vancouver, B.C.

Re: A Request to Lighthouse Visitors... - 02/17/03 03:50 PM

I sorta do the same thing. Whenever I go to a lighthouse and get a LH related brochure, I put it in the Lighthouse Library...A shoebox. A good way to get more brochures may be to go on a Challenge (MD & NJ) or take a bus tour with others.
