Cedar Point Lighthouse - 05/12/99 02:43 PM
My son had a baseball game at Easthampton HS on the east end of the south fork of LI yesterday. This was a trip of 1 1/2 hours so I worked in a little LIGHTHOUSING to make the trip worthwhile.(ed. Later in the day my son hit a 3 run HR to make the trip even more memorable.)
Take Route 27 east to Easthampton. Before reaching the village of Easthampton, look for Stephan Hands Road and make a left. Follow Stephan Hands Road several miles and follow the signs for Cedar Point Park. When you reach the park, drive past it about a mile to the beach.
You can see the granite lighthouse from the beach but bring binoculars or a long telephoto lens for a better view. A better idea would be a boat to get to Cedar Island.
The LH resembles Old Field or Great Captains Island.
UPDATE: You can access the LH from the park, it's said to be a mile walk along the beach on the inlet from where you can park your car. The LH is boarded and cemented up but can be viewed from the outside.(This info is from a Park Ranger - I will update again after a visit.)

This is a great little side stop on the way to Montauk LH.
