Avatar help - 12/10/05 02:53 PM

Lately My avitar is not showing up on a post. When I go back to the topic it is there. Any clues to this problem?

Re: Avatar help - 12/11/05 04:41 PM

We still can't see the avatar Fran! Sorry!

I am not sure how Sandy and Bob see your avatar, but as long as the website it comes from is not working, it is likely to be invisible. And the website it comes from has this message:

------------------------------------------------
Under Construction

The site you are trying to view does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded and configured.

Please try this site again later. If you still experience the problem, try contacting the Web site administrator.

------------------------------------------------

So maybe they are working on your son's webpages?

Margret is correct on both counts - doesn't show and won't as long as the site is not functioning. You could upload your avatar to the lighthousekeepers space that is provided and then link to it there.

Sandy & Bob may see it because it has been cached on their system (or they have been into the holiday spirits . . .)

Haven't been into any spirits for 30+ years, so it must be cached.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 12:36 AM

Fran, you upload the avatar the same way that you would upload a picture for the forums at www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads

YOur avatar picture has to be 75 x 75 pixels.

You then go to my profile at the top of the page

then to change my avatar and scroll to the bottom and isert the address in the box provided, same as you would for a picture.

I hope I got it right. Let's try and find out.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 01:47 AM

I tried and it didn't work so either my download is no good or maybe I have to select no avatar first and then get a new one.I clicked on one of my posted avatars and saved it on my Doc. maybe thats wrong. confused I used www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/email address/fran.jpg

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:15 AM

Should be www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads and nothing else.

This will bring you to a screen that will ask for your full name and your email address. The picture you save should be short (Example pic.jpg). The email address and the name of the picture are case sensitive. VERY IMPORTANT. Use the BROWSE button to upload your file and remember to keep it short and simple.

Try checking in the Play Room first.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:32 AM

Fran uploaded the file correctly. Probably an issue of not getting the address right in the avatar section of her profile.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:33 AM

I did that first. Then I went to profile toselect another Avatar. I then put in www.lighthousekeepers.com/uploads/files/email/franavatar.jpg and got nothing. confused

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:37 AM

Dear Saint Dave. Do I have to have no avatar selected first before selecting a new one and do I have to wait a while before the download takes place.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:42 AM

I fixed it Fran - two things: link has to start with http:// and you have to put your email address in where it says "email". You can right click on the image and display properties to see the exact link.

When you go to the avatar section of your profile, go to the 'set url' box at the bottom left and input the link to your image. Then click "set URL" which should then display your avatar image in the upper left box on the screen. Choose to use that avatar and then save your updated profile.

In any case, you're back in business now. You may have to refresh the page to see your avatar, or exit from the Forums and then re-enter to get the avatar to display on your own computer. It does show on mine after a simple refresh.

Re: Avatar help - 12/12/05 02:52 AM

I think what i did wrong was forget to select this avatar in the top left courner. I had my email in the spot to lazy to put the entire in the upper post. I might not have had the hhtp part. I knew you could help. You have earned your title many times over smile cool wink :p laugh
