This solves the mystery of the missing number HL458 in my inventory list.. I have been wondering for years why that number wasn't used and now i find out that it was used..

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/01/09 08:49 PM

So as not to tip the story before some read it, I'll post my reply without reference to the name of the piece:

The only problem with the story is the HL431 (the lowest number) is supposed to be the "remake" of the too expensive HL458 (highest number).

The Collectors Guide indicates that HL458 was not used -- which is consistent with a piece for which sculpting might have been started, then the piece cancelled before production.

In talking with Harry today, he actually checked with Kim and KB to see if their memories were better than his. None can recall a specific reason for the numerical mystery.

However, the best explanation is that #431 had been assigned to a product that never got into sculpting and when it was necessary to resulpt the lighted 458, they dropped back and used 431 as a fill-in. Harry also noted that not only was the tower lit on 458, so were the keepers' house windows.

As to whether there were 12 or 14 APs made, Harry indicates that this piece was generated about the time that they were cutting back the number of APs being made. Twelve is probably the right number, but it's possible that 2 more were made and shipped in a different carton.

The unanswered question from the Musings is what will happen to the 'lost treasure' of 12 APs that were never released?

Stay tuned; I'm sure that we'll hear.

I'm sure there are more then 12 collectors interested in buying one.

It would be nice if HL decided to make more of these to satisfy those who would want one.

This brings to my retired mind that the HL numbers of HL314, HL321 and HL334 haven't been used on released lighthouses yet or have they?

And HL458 is a really nice looking lighthouse!!

Paul,

Tried to use the October 2009 Musings link above but all my computer came up with was a black screen with ACROBAT.COM in the middle. The computer also indicated it was Done.

Do you know what's happening? Max

Wow! vhappy
A blast from the past!
Just when we thought we new everything about Harbour Lights? LOL
What a great missing piece and story!
It will be very interesting as the whole story unfolds, and we find out how these rare pieces are distributed.
And wouldn't it be great if those other missing numbers have a some pieces hiding in the warehouse??

Max,

I don't think you wanted long enough for Acrobat to finish loaded, even though it said it was done, as I experienced the thing. However, I waited a few minutes longer and Musings popped up.

Max I probably uploaded the high res version on the acrobat site so it could take a while to appear...

I will try emailing you a copy to see if that works better for you..

Thanks Paul. Your email worked fine.

And Melody, I tried it again and it came up OK rather quickly.

I do still have dial up service and loading can take awhile.

This is GREAT NEWS! Finally, some VERY exciting stuff from Harbour Lights that makes you sit on the edge of your seat and say.... "I MUST HAVE ONE"!

Awesome! I like the AP version better with the keepers house.

I see LHD is selling Artist Proofs, think they would sell me one of these?

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/07/09 05:29 PM

Yeah.... just go to their website.

There is a whole bunch of them available as AP's at the original SRP. Can't beat that! ... except for free shipping of course.

AP's for everyone.......

Of course Saturday will bring a little something "special" for all those attending the LHD Bill event!

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/12/09 01:02 AM

I would have loved to make that trip but my high school reunion was at the same time. We had an event Friday night, a golf tournament on Saturday, and the final event Saturday night. I'm very tired right now!

Bill said that they only showed one off in Wells and he talked about the piece a couple of times but none were sold nor auctioned at the event.

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/12/09 03:31 PM

I wonder what is the plan for these?

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/12/09 07:59 PM

The last time I talked to Tony (last Saturday), he said they hadn't worked it out yet, how they were going to handle the HL458...

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/13/09 01:10 AM

Got my fingers crossed that maybe, just maybe, they will make more. Could be the final GLOW.

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/13/09 03:06 AM

I was at the event Saturday and Bill had one out for viewing. It's still in the air if they will have a bidding war for these or if a specific price will be set. During his discussion of the background of the piece he did throw out an offer to take it home (not sure if it was official or not) but there were no takers.

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/13/09 05:30 PM

If you are interested in one of these APs, you should let Tony or Don know of your interest. Just so you are kept in the loop when a decision is made.

Loon - you can uncross your fingers; making this a GLOW is completely out of the question. Sorry.

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/14/09 04:14 AM

FYI--When I emailed Tony of my interest in HL458 as suggested above, he expressed that they will probably auction these off in the near future.

Re: Sneak Peek of the October Musings!! - 10/19/09 08:25 PM

Sure was a boat load of HLs "deeply" discounted at LHD this past week, like the 2008 Christmas LE for $19.99 -ugh, what disgust! Such a shame.... The bleeding continues....

My AP looks nice though! It should, I paid "FULL" Price for it! Very happy with it.....
