The Golden Gate Bridge is coming to the Midwest Harbour Lights Museum!! Sue got through on her phone after no more than 10 redials (she was doing things around the house at the time)... Me on the other hand got nothing but busy signals on my over 100 redialing efforts.. Congratulations Randy! It took Sue around 8 minutes to get through.. I probably would still be dialing!

So much for that idea! I had intended to call but forgot completely about it. I did recall that it was in May but I didn't recall it was May 1st.

Good Morning

I didn't forget (with a little help from my friends) - and have already taken care of a couple folks here who did. Wonder why my posts from yesterday were deleted? Know I was replying to previous posts on this board. HMMMMMM!!! Appears to be a trend

I got through just after 6am, should be pretty low on the list...just trying to get that ol' WACKO feeling again.

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/02/03 10:55 PM

Terry

Tell me if I understand you right.
You and some helpers made phone calls gathering as many Golden Gate Bridges as time allowed. You gathered up Golden Gate bridges that would have normally gone to fellow collectors. Now the following day, you are trying to sell to those same collectors on this forum at a profit.
Posted By: Webmaster

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 12:09 AM

Those of you who forgot to call... shame on you. You apparently don't visit the offical website often enough. For the last 10 days, we've had a daily 'count down' notice telling you how many days it was until you had to order.

Better change your 'home page' to www.HarbourLights.com!!!

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 01:29 AM

Daniel - every one of these GOLD pieces is to be delivered through a retail Harbour Lights dealer -- who will make a fair profit on the order placed by phone by each buyer.

According to HL, a number of dealers called in and were treated as collectors and allowed to purchase. Some of these may have been purchased on behalf of good customers who were unable to call that day -- or they may have been for the dealer's own personal collection. Or they may have been purchased for speculative sale some time down the road. (I can't say and am not implying that; that may also be true for some non-dealers who purchased.)

I can't speak for Terry at Bronze Lady, but he said nothing about marking up the price on the sales he made to those who indicated that they did not get through in time.

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 02:22 AM

I for one have talked to Terry over the last 5-6 years and have bought several items through him and have NEVER known him to be unfair in any dealings. I am not his regular customer, and he knows at this time I will not leave my regular dealer, yet he has never made anymore then a regular dealer's profit off of me. If and when I ever leave my regular dealer I hope that Terry can accomodate me.

I for one have meetings from 5:30 AM till 9:00 AM and was unable to call so I am going to look elsewhere for my Gold Bridge. I will be calling him to see if he has any left. I also called Harbour Lights and told them that should they decide to do something like this again, the only fair way to handle it is on a Saturday so everyone has a fair chance to call in.

Daniel, if you don't get confirmation that you got a Golden Gate you may want to consider calling The Bronze Lady yourself.

Out of curiousity, what about the HL gold plated bridge model led you to buy it (or want to buy it)?

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 04:08 AM

For those that missed out, I was just at the Bill event at Hands of Time in Savage, MD. They had SIX (6) Golden Gate Bridges for sale. I'm not sure how many or if they sold any tonight, but you may want to check them out:

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 04:43 AM

Terry's posting from yesterday clearly said that he had secured a few additional pieces and would be selling them at the suggested retail price. I have dealt with Terry for years I know that he has had a number of memberships in his (or his stores) name. I would be willing to bet if Terry was able to get thru more than once other people were too. If Terry sells them at retail as he said he will make the same amount of profit as any other dealer would have for being the dealer who delivered it, but maybe this gives him a chance to bring a new customer who may become a regular customer. I have done business with Terry for probably 7-8 years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable HL dealer.

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 05:28 AM

Thanks for clearing this up Guys.
Maybe yesterdays post said retail, which I didn’t see. But todays didn’t mention anything about retail. I am glad I brought this out in the open. You have all made your point. I didn’t understand that dealers would make something through Harbour Lights for each one they sold. I thought that dealers paid full price just like collectors and the only way they made a profit was to jack up the price when they resold it. That’s why I couldn’t understand Terry buying up so many. I asked for clarification and I got it.

By the way, My Golden Gate Bridge is on the way. Being sent directly.

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 03:36 PM

As far as not remembering, or not being available to call on a specific date - when I have to remember something important I do it the old fashioned way. I write myself a very large note and put it in a very prominent place! smile
Weekday, weekend - no one day, time works for everyone. If the appointed day and time doesn't work for you I guess you'd have to get a designated caller.

Bit surprising all the attention on this piece that not many here seemed anxious to purchase when it was first announced.
Posted By: Randy Kremer

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 05:00 PM

Tim asked the question why, so here is my answer!

I bought one for myself because Harbour Lights puts out a great product and with only 250 being produced, it's quite rare already! I think having a gold figurine of The Golden Gate Bridge is very unique and that appealed to me! I hope to see it (the real one!) some day. Now I can look at it (the model!) everyday! Some might think it's a little pricey, but it's a gold piece and they have been very popular the past few years for Harbour Lights! It will be interesting to see when the first one appears on E-bay and what it will sell for. I would guess they will sell for at least double the org. retail price. By doing a little figuring, Harbour Lights pulled in $65,500 in a three hour period. NOT BAD!!!!

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 05:19 PM

Hey Larry, Thanks for the "heads up" on the Hands of Time. I reserved a piece this morning. The gal I talked to said she has a total of 6 pieces reserved and said she has 1 or 2 more that she has available to sell. They would take about 2-3 months to get and she is selling them for $250.00 each. Anybody still interested you better call fast. laugh

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/03/03 08:18 PM

Mombo.
I must admit I was one of those people that voted on Bob's poll that they were not interested. It is not a lighthouse so I don’t want it, was my reasoning.
But as I began to weigh it out, it started to look like a Harbour Light deal of the decade.
The reasons I changed my mine was:

1.It has a HL number. If it has a HL number it is a Harbour lights.

2.It is very limited and probably will go for $500 +or- on the secondary market. I don’t think you could go wrong on this one as an investment.

3.It is nice looking, something to be proud of and something to show off to your friends.

4.It is the golden gate bridge. A figurine of one of the greatest engineering accomplishments in our history.

5.It is small and will not take up a lot of my precious space.

6.I think collectors will see what they missed out on and will drive up its popularity.

7.And most of all like it?

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/05/03 01:20 PM

Good Morning

I wasn't going to come back onto these boards as I've never been interested in "stirring the pot" so to speak. And don't intend to here.

Just want to say thank you to all of those who clarified this subject for me. Had an email this morning from one of my "occasional" customers in the Northeast who thought I should take a look.

Anyway, all points appear to be clarified. I do have many memberships in HL. Each of my Children (all living in Indianapolis) have one, my wife, employees and all ex employees (no dogs, cats or mice). I do the same for Disney, Shoes, Ebony Visions, etc, etc...

As many have mentioned, everything I sell, regardless how old, I sell at retail - unless I paid secondary prices for it. I used to do a lot of that but times change (pronounced ebay). However, If you're a CLUM MEMBER and forgot to order your Roanoke, you can call me and I've got one for you at issue price.

Golden Gate was the same thing. I WILL NOT keep one for myself, no matter how much I like it. All of them will go to collectors. And all at retail. And yes, they are now all committed.

Anyway, thanks again for those of you with the kind words and of course I look forward to hearing from each of you out there.

Re: GOLDEN GATE - 05/05/03 02:39 PM

Thanks for clarifying, Terry.

In my response to Daniel above I said that each of these gold bridges was to be delivered through a dealer.

I understand that HL is shipping these direct to those who ordered them. However, the dealer you named when you placed your order will be getting credit for the sale.
