Cape Hatteras Move Commemorative

Cape Hatteras Move Commemorative - 10/28/99 12:45 AM

Cape Hatteras Move Commemorative replica will be available in November. This commemorative piece made by (FI) Fraser International shows Cape Hatteras Lighthouse up on blocks and rollers during its move. 6 ½” high on a 5 ½” x 4 ¾” base. This new introduction of American lighthouses by FI is about the same size as the Harbour Light’s Cape Hatteras Glow. The Production will be limited to 1,500. A picture of it can be seen in the late fall LIGHTHOUSE DEPOT. To me it looks like FI is trying to expand into the American lighthouse market.

Will any of you be a trader to Harbour Lights and buy this one? Or will you wait for the rumored Cape Hatteras on the move.

Could Fraser International create a threat to Harbours lights monopoly on American Lighthouse Figurines?

Does the low production number interest you?

Does any body else have thoughts on this?

A low edition number has meaning only if quality is high. I will wait for the HL on the move . Bill Younger at a signing in MAY
of this year advised me that HL is going to produce an on the move piece .

I'll definitely wait for the HL. I've seen FI's before and the quality can't hold a candle to HL's.

Glad you told me that HL is going to do a Hatteras on the move piece. Will wait for it.

Although the FI Hatteras looks like a very nice piece, I will wait for the HL version.

A HL "hatteras on the move" will be on my list of must buys. I'd drop $125 in a heart beat for that one.

Has anyone out there seen or purcahsed a FI?

I am curious as to the quality of their lighthouses.

Since HL is doing a move piece I will wait for that for sure.

Wouldn't even think of having anything but an HL - we'll wait.

I'll chime in with another "rather wait for a HL piece"!

I looked at this and for the life of me couldn't find who made it. Not planning to buy it (or anyone else's, including HL's either).

If it's not HL, it's not on my shelf!

I'll be the first to admit it! I ordered the piece from Lighthouse Depot. I also ordered
the Whitefish Point / Edmund Fitzgerald piece from the Cheryl Spencer Collin's collection. (Both on backorder). Harbour Lights will always be #1 to me, but I like lighthouses and will buy pieces from other companies that I find pleasing. The CSC piece looks very interesting, so I decided to buy one. I have almost the whole collection of CSC, but haven't bought one in a few years. This piece looks special! I also own the whole collection of Danbury Mint Lighthouses. Their pieces have alot of detail and are priced under $50.00. Even though Danbury is an open edition, the detail is excellent for the price paid!
Like I said before Harbour Lights will always be my favorite!

At a signing event yesterday, Bill Younger advised me that Cape Hatteras On The Move will be released as the Event Piece for next year. I don't know if this information has been posted elsewhere in the Forums. If not, you heard it here first!

I will wait for Harbour Lights to produce the piece. I have no interest in other brands.

Here you go Sean, In all its dis-tastefulness. Personally, if she wanted to honor the crew of the fitz, she shouldn't have done it by showing the ship going down. CSC used poor judgement IMHO.

funny, the link was working for me earlier.

Good news Bruce. I was concerned that Younger & assoc. would make the Cape Hatteras on the move a glow. I am going to a signing a week and a half from now. I will make sure to question Bill more about it. As far as I know this is new news.

See the Rumor Mill for more on this subject.

Sure glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought the CSC Whitefish Pt and Edmund Fitzgerald was in poor taste. I really couldnt even believe it.

Before you guys jump all over Cheryl, please note that she has already done the Fitz in all its 20-inch long free-floating glory as a 500-piece limited edition...I see nothing wrong with her latest sculpture and will anxiously await its arrival in my curio.

The link to Lighthouse Digest's page doesn't work because it calls a CGI program. You get the home page at least.

Re: Cape Hatteras Move Commemorative - 11/02/99 02:20 AM

Some of those who were at Rosemont already knew "Cape Hatteras on the Move" was on the schedule for 2000. Bill slipped that in when he was discussing Harbour Lights on a web-site TV interview.

They worked with Lego on the actual move platform. HL cast the lighthouse and the base, but Lego provided a scale model of the moving apparatus.

The goal was to allow owners a variety of poses.

Please note the Lego remarks are NOT TRUE.

I just took a peek at the Edmund Fitzgerald by CSC. Maybe the photo is deceiving but it looks like something out of claymation. No offense, Cheryl...I'm sure you'll sell all 500, but not to me.

Hit the nail on the head again Bob - is it also animated?

Here's the foundering Fitz.

I have to agree with Todd. Depicting a real sinking where real lives were lost is in poor taste, imo.

Re: Cape Hatteras Move Commemorative - 11/03/99 02:32 AM

Cheryl Spencer Collin has made both figurines. The full size Edmund Fitzgerald sold by Bayside Treasures for $150. And the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald at Whitefish Point sold by Lighthouse Depot for $148.

I think "Hatteras on the Move" should be a society members only piece.....

EITHER SOCIETY PIECE OR EVENT PIECE IS OK WITH ME. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER CAPE HATTERAS GLOW.

I have to agree. The Fitz being shown sinking is pretty poor taste.

I'm not interested in starting another collection - would wait for an HL piece.
