Who is Tom Farrell?

Who is Tom Farrell? - 05/10/01 09:17 PM

I just received an email from Lighthouse Depot and near the bottom they mention that Tom Farrell will be appearing on May 19th to autograph Yerba Buena pieces. The entire message reads:

"Tom Farrell of Harbour Lights will be appearing at Lighthouse Depot on Saturday, May 19 from 1pm to 3pm to autograph Harbour Lights replicas. The Harbour Lights Special Event piece is Yerba Buena Lighthouse, CA, http://www.lhdepot.com/Order.cfm?orderitem=42639 for $78.95. This replica is only available for sale at a Harbour Lights "In Store Special Autograph Signing Event" and not otherwise offered for sale. However, you do not need to be present to obtain this collectible. Advance orders are now being taken and your autographed piece will be shipped to you after the May 19th event. Be sure if you order on the website to write "Autograph" in the comment field of the order form. This would also be an ideal time to purchase the National Lighthouse Day replica of St. Helena Lighthouse, Michigan, Item # http://www.lhdepot.com/Order.cfm?orderitem=42634. This will be the only time that Tom Farrell will be able to autograph this replica, since Harbour Lights will no longer make it available after August 7th of this year. You might also consider purchasing one of the retired Harbour Lights replicas at this time. Quantity is limited on some of these pieces, so order early for an autographed one! Once they are sold out, no more will ever be available."

I have never heard this name before. Any clues?

Tom Farrell is a Harbour Lights Rep in the New England area.

Lighthouse Depot is having a 'Rep Event'.

So why would anyone want their pieces signed by a rep? I mean they might be nice folks and knowledgeable about Harbour Lights, but what's the big deal that they sign a piece? I've always wondered about this.

Yeh, me too. But what else is a rep going to do during a 'rep event'?

Perhaps we can start a list of just what a Harbour Lights Rep might do during a rep event:

Hi Jack,

I know you can't say that any more!

No offense to Tom Farrell, but when Lighthouse Depot is having a Bill event on Sept 29th, why have Tom sign a lighthouse in May. I guess if you just can't wait!

BTW Jack that card is a collector's item. It is one of the cards that Ken and my lovely wife Sue put labels on when we were in El Cajon recently. It might even be one of the ones in this image....

Thanks everybody for the information. I thought he might have been a Rep but couldn't figure out why anyone would want his autograph (I'm sure he is a great guy.)

Paul, as far as the "Hi Jack" comment goes... I can remember growing up here in South Florida in the 70's (only about 120 miles north of Cuba.) When we were at an airport it was very clear that there was no joking around about hijacks. There were also a number of Cuban families that I knew that refused to fly within the state. They would drive to Georgia and they fly the rest of the way. They were that afraid of an "unscheduled" return to Cuba. Isn't it funny how we don't even think about that any more?

Thanks again,

Jack

We have a news photographer at the TV station named Jack and it has been a standing joke for years, but now it is on a list of words that you can be arrested for saying, whether you are joking or not at airports.

I saw the same notice in Lighthouse Digest and also could not figure out why I would want Tom Farrell to sign my Harbour Lights piece. Now that it's been cleared up, I'm quite sure I don't wan't Tom Farrell to sign a piece.

Another idea of what the Rep can do:

Sit there and remove those little white microscopic bits that are on new HL's pieces. I know we've mentioned them before. Did we ever determine what they are and how they get there?

Just curious...has anyone else ever seen a HL Rep. sign (or offer to sign) a piece for you...?

The reason why I ask is because I've been to a few rep events over the past few years and the reps at those shows made NO mention of signing pieces nor were there any fliers or mailings that suggested that they would.

I just find the whole thing a bit strange, that's all.

Jacque Cater is the Rep. for Maryland Virginia and Delaware along with the help of her husband Larry who do a terrific job with the dealers in this area. She has permission from HL to sign any piece that any collector wants to have signed. She has signed my HL 630 Beckoning Reacons and Yerba Buena and I am proud to have them signed by her. These are also signed by Bill. Harbour Lights is very lucky to have these people working for them. Very professional.
