Good Wednesday Morning!

As a point of information, "Musings" is sent out to about 12,000; included are current Harbour Lights Society members and those from the past!

I am hoping that "Musings" might bring some Collectors back into the fold!

Just got the Musings e-mail but for the first time I can't open either version of it. I know others have had this problem in the past but this is a first for me.

Nice choices. Too bad Sapelo range light looks different than Grand Marias, MN, Two Harbors breakwater, MN or Grand Marias, MI. With a base change we chould have four different lighthouses.

Jim, I grew impatient waiting for the hires version to download and switched to the lores. It too was slow but did load. I wonder if part of the problem is that everyone just got their notification and is trying to download the file at the same time, taxing the server?

Question...I literally just joined the HLCS this morning. Am I going to get this Musings, or do I have to wait for the next one?

I also was finally able to download the lores version.

I've been unable to download either version. I usually don't have a problem downloading these. They normally download in seconds. anger

Edited in: Only took an hour and a half, but it finally downloaded. laugh

At Work I have a dual 2.66 GHz processor with 3.25 GB of Ram
And it still took a couple of minutes to bring it up.

Thank you folks ....

....for letting me know about the slow process. I kicked off the hires version, let it run, went out to eat supper, and when I returned, there it was. I was gone for about an hour.

I stopped trying to open them from my e-mail. I save them to my computer. While they download I read my other e-mails. I have no problem opening them from my documents file.

A little while ago I was able to get the hi res version to download and open. Took a couple minutes, longer than it really should, but a whole lot faster than this afternoon. Makes me really wonder if it has to do with everyone getting their email and immediatley trying to download at the same time.

The same happened here...the second try later was also faster. It was the same with the last issue. I figured like you, that less traffic made the download faster.

But could it also be that the hard drive retained memory of the first download, and took less effort bringing it up the 2nd time?

Just a thought.

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 12:57 PM

I too had no end of bother getting the Musings. In the end I set it loading and went and cooked dinner and did not return until it was eaten and we had washed up ... and - wow - the second I sat back at my PC it finished downloading. And hour and 3/4 on a fairly quick connection - and that for one page of Musings ... seems a bit excessive, does it not?

Must be HELL for the folks with dial up connections!

In my case, I don't think it had to do with everyone else loading it at the same time, 'cause when I downloaded it, it was night time on your side of the pond and I don't think there are THAT many insomniacs around wink

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 01:31 PM

Something I did that helped me was:
After the computer was done loading, it just sat there. I then refreshed and it then reloaded again but much quicker. Like 30 seconds.

Like Dave said it was a lot quicker in the Evening than yesterday afternoon.

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 01:50 PM

I got the email, the first page appeared without the logo on top, then quite a bit of time later the logo appeared, then I clicked on low resolution, walked away, prepared supper, played with the dogs, put wood in the fire, etc., and it never loaded up. Two words: pure frustration!

I get all sorts of emails from friends that contain large files, pictures, etc., and they all load right up in less than 30 seconds. In this day and age, you would think send a file with a few pics would be an easy thing to do.

 Bob

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 03:11 PM

Pulled it up at 8:00 AM this morning. Took 4 seconds to come up. I agree with Dave, it must be something to do with alot of people trying to open it up at the same time.

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 03:59 PM

Getting away from how long it took to download, what does everybody think about it's content?

I think both lights look great. A little on the small size, but still great.

I've been trying to figure out what's the lighthouse in the heading section. You only can see the roof. It was also on the last Musings. Doesn't look like any of the recent releases.

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 04:35 PM

Did you all notice that with the introduction of these 2 new lights in the Musings, that a new "800" series starts with HL800 Loon Island, NH?

Perhaps we will see a "HL900" series in the future as well....

Re: Musings to hit next week! - 02/26/08 05:25 PM

Christopher,

No, to be honest with you, I never noticed the new numbering series. I was just too happy just to download the one page.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I didn't get mine yet. I don't know why all of a sudden we are not getting HL stuff when we have paid our membership.

Judy
The Musings have nothing to do with Membership.
Just request to be put on the musings list.

I am sending you an email with the webpage.
If you have a spam protector it is possible that it kept the email from going thru. That is what happened to me.
